Again, like the lasts months, network problems.... 25 servers affected, dns and http issues all over here..

You shouldn't be experiencing network problems, however, if your domains are hosted in our authoritative DNS farm, you may be seeing intermittent resolving problems. Ref: http://forums.theplanet.com/index.php?show...c=91855&hl=

If you're unable to access your servers using their IPs, then please submit a support ticket with a few traceroutes as this may be an unrelated issue. This will ensure our technical support and NOC are able to track your issue and resolve it.

Now it seems to be all solved, my nagios system shows no more services down.

I got this same crap answer during the same time period. . . If THEPLANET DNS SERVICES ARE DOWN, then WE ARE DOWN.

Just because the box has power doesn't mean the PLANET is done in its duties.

Part of owning servers, (or several in the case of Sh4ka and I), is to have internet connectivity.

I've seriously had it with the planet.

Surely if you have that many servers and are reliant on things so much - wouldn't it be a good idea to run your own name servers across many of your boxes? Depends how many domains you are hosting to how much of a pain it is however.

I'm not excusing problems with the planets name servers but if you rely on systems so much wouldn't it be better to have your own? even only as a backup / failsafe?

Greetings:

The Planet does need to look at high availability for DNS and related services.

Outside of that area, customers also have a level of responsibility such as running one's own DNS servers (bandwidth and power utilization for DNS services tend to be extremely light); and looking at alternatives based on size.

I.e. 25 servers, would a private rack make more sense? Would co-location make more sense? Etc.

Thank you.

This issue was resolved back in September. If you're seeing more recent issues, then it's definitely unrelated and may be isolated to your servers. There have been no reports of DNS issues over the past week or so.

Please submit a ticket and PM it to me if you're seeing problems and I'll escalate them to the right people.
