Not directly related to hosting and server administration, but would very much appreciate your help on this issue.
I have started a portal and it's been running for 3 years now. We were monitoring our statistics using Cpanels Awstats and Webalizer, emphasis on Awstats. And today we have about 8000 unique visitors, about 100.000 pageviews per month.
Since we planned to get more and better advertisers we were told we need some other statistic monitoring software like google analytics or Gemius, because big companies only approve their data. So we implemented both.
And now on Google Analytics and Gemius we have about 2000 visits or 20.000 pageviews per month! Thats huge difference! I was told that they monitor visits through cookies.
I want to have those statistics equal. Is awstats monitoring bots as well (although it says is not) or where is this difference coming from?
How can i "repair" Gemius statistics so that they are closer to my server statistics without cheating, of course.
Or can I somehow implement something in site that would force users to use cookies or something like that...
