Full Version: Lantronix KVM problem

I don't often need my KVM, and I have it mainly for "if all else fails, use this" type situations. Tonight, for the first time in two or three months, I logged in to it and all I see is:

usb 4-6: device descriptor read/all, error -71
usb 4-6: string descriptor 0 read error: -71
usb 4-6: can't set config #1, error -71

And the KVM does not respond to any input from me.

I'm running RHEL5.1, if that makes any difference.

Is this something I can fix from my end, or is this something I'm going to need to open a ticket for?

Edit: A couple of times when I've rebooted, I'm getting this:

usb 4-6: device not accepting address 6, error -71
usb 4-6: failed to restore interface 0 altsetting 0 (error=-71)
usb 4-6: device descriptor read/all, error -71
usb 4-6: device descriptor read/all, error -71
usb 4-6: device descriptor read/8, error -71
usb 4-6: failed to restore interface 0 altsetting 0 (error=-71)
usb 4-6: failed to restore interface 0 altsetting 0 (error=-71)
usb 4-6: can't set config#1, error -71

Edit again: Since my initial post and first edit, I can add that its not a hardware issue. If I start a reboot (via putty), the instant that Linux shuts down and the machine physically reboots, suddenly the KVM is fully functional again...I can jump in to the bios setup screen, manipulate options in Grub, etc and so on. As soon as Linux starts actually booting is when I lose control of the keyboard and mouse via the KVM unit.

Since I knew now that at least at power up I could gain control of the server and return to a previous kernel if there was a problem, I updated to the latest Red Hat Kernel...and that's all I updated. The problem with the KVM has now vanished as mysteriously as it appeared.

hmm... corrupted drivers perhaps?
