Full Version: Orbit 2 a nightmare

We went through this a few years back. Orbit changed, it sucked, everyone complained, and The Planet switched back to Orbit 1.

I'm dreading the day I don't have the option for Orbit 1. Half the stuff doesn't work, and besides that it's bloody slow. We could elect congress in the time it takes me to view my bandwidth graphs...

Raise your hand if you want Orbit 1 back.... icon_mrgreen.gif

What aspects of Orbit 2 do you not like? I'm willing to pass along all of your thoughts.

Why the hell has anyone allowed to pass Orbit2 to production as it is not even at Alpha stage of quality.

It's DOG SLOW, half of functions FAILS, graphs & pictures doesn't load at all, everything is "compressed" so it's hard to find anything, after you find what you were looking for it shows scarce data for just one server, etc.

IT'S FAILURE BY DESIGN AND USABILITY, IT CAN'T BE FIXED!

Remove it for sake and stay with Orbit1 which WORKS, it's FAST, TRANSPARENT and easy to use (even though we have found few bugs in it).

Also Orbit2 has problems with browsers other than IE, like Safari, Opera, we haven't tried Firefox as we don't use it in our environment.

Please, leave Orbit1 as it is and don't cancel it in favour of Orbit2. We don't have time to fiddle with discovering & reporting all bugs in Orbit2.

And YES we agree with post from skullbox.net, it is slow compared to Orbit1, to many bugs, etc.

My main complaint is the new DNS administration interface.

Orbit 1 was very easy to use - fast and user friendly.

In Orbit 2, changes have to be made 1 entry at a time and its very slow.
Even worse, when you need to go and edit an entry, you need to delete it first and then recreate it.
That increases the possibility to make a mistake - so more time is needed to double check each entry.

Unfortunately I have to second the request to get Orbit 1 back. This new one is horrible and difficult to navigate. On Orbit 1, when I logged in, everything was at my finger tips, right there in front of me. Easy to find. This new one seems to follow the Kai Krause GUI design, where everything is out of site until you need it. It didn't work well then, it doesn't work well here.

Is anyone else having issues ordering new SSL Certs from within Orbit II? I have had a trouble ticket open since August 24th with no resolution in sight. My issue is all the drop down menus on the 'Select Description & Pricing' page have no options. That is I cannot select anything from the dropdowns.

I don't like beta or alpha testing something that is supposed to be helping me run my business.

Orbit 1 please. It just worked.

Personally, I think I'd agree with the comment about the bnadwidth graphs - I find them not nice to use with Orbit 2.

To the extent I have build a system into our intranet here to load them via the API (when this works). I liked being able to see, at a glance, the current bandwidth usage of all our servers - was great for load balancing of large downloads that we do, to be able to see which servers are running over and just take them out of the rotation.

SSL Cert ordering on Orbit 2 is broken, and The Planet support know this. I couldn't get it to work on Orbit 1 either (same issue you had), so I ordered one thru online chat - the rep ordered it for me and I answered the emails, etc.

Mark me down as another person who can't stand orbit2.. Main issues:

1) Grey Screen of death after almost EVERY link click in firefox. Must press reload for the page to appear
2) As others said, DNS admin is very cumbersome. It used to be easy to change the DNS address pointers. Not so anymore. (you have to delete each old one and recreate.. ugh)
3) Slow

I've just started using it, and I think I'll go back to Orbit 1. Sorry guys, but I agree with the first guy -- until its production ready, it shouldn't be deployed.
