Full Version: PTR record not found
The Planet Forums > System Administration > Mail Hosting

Situation Setup:
Dedicated Server
Linux / Plesk
Nameservers running on Server
10 Domains pointing to the same IP the primary one

The Issue:
I have a site attempting to send mail to another person on a different server. Normally all mail is delivered correctly, to other servers. But this mail is getting rejected with the message that the mail server is configured properly. I have PTR records set for each domain but when I do a search on the PTR for the main IP:

PTR record exists(ev1s-207-44-226-9.theplanet.com.) but does not point back to mail.nonimaui.com.
A record does not exists for PTR host name

mail.nonimaui.com has a PTR record pointing to that IP as all the domains do. There is also an A record for mail.nonimaui.com as well.

Is this something I need to have setup by ThePlanet or something that is not configured properly in my server. Any insight would be helpful and appreciated.

Yeah, if you put a ticket in and tell them what IPs you want your PTR's set to, our support staff will get those set for you.

List them in a format like:
207.44.226.9 mail.nonimaui.com
207.44.226.10 <whatever>

Excellent thanks for the reply. I'm curious will each domain need to be moved to it's own IP like this? Because right now there are 10 different domains on that .9 IP. So when say an account on nonimaui.com sends an email it reports as coming from mail.nonimaui.com; whereas if an account on noni-juice-hawaii.com sends an email it reports as mail.noni-juice-hawaii.com.

Just want to make sure I'm as clear as possible when submitting tickets. Thanks.
