I have drive /dev/sda7 (/) 88% full.
this is my current status:

1.7G ./var
4.0K ./perl
29M ./opt
163M ./root
72K ./tftpboot
8.0K ./selinux
8.0K ./misc
216K ./dev
552K ./rkhunter-1.2.9
12K ./mnt
du: cannot read directory `./proc/23354/task': No such file or directory
du: cannot read directory `./proc/23354/fd': No such file or directory
937M ./proc
7.9M ./scripts
5.7M ./bin
13G ./home
8.0K ./media
4.5G ./usr
8.0K ./srv
110M ./perl588installer
24K ./.gnupg
22M ./etc
38M ./boot
4.0K ./backup
17M ./sbin
8.0K ./initrd
16K ./lost+found
0 ./sys
456M ./lib
21G .

so i notice "per588linstaller" taking much space, but is that just installation directory, or also installed perl? can i delete it or not?
another thing taking much space is "proc" - i don't remember seeing it before? what is that?
finally, "lib/modules", what can i safely delete from there? i noticed lot of versions, with different endings like: /2.6.9-78.0.1.ELsmp
/2.6.9-67.0.22.ELsmp
i presume that /2.6.9-67.0.22.ELsmp is older version and is safe to delete... right?

thanks for helping me...

/proc
QUOTE
On many Unix-like computer systems, procfs, short for process file system, consists of a pseudo file system (a file system dynamically generated at boot) used to access process information from the kernel. The file system is often mounted at the /proc directory. Because /proc is not a real file system, it consumes no storage space and only a limited amount of memory.

Can you paste an "ls -la /"? 21GB in / seems a bit off.
