Does anyone else use the Lantronix IP KVM?
Does it completely go offline while your server is rebooting?
I thought it was directly attached to the physical server ports and then connected to an additional switch port?

After a reboot, the KVM will start working as Server 2003 is prepairing network connections.
Granted that is sooner than when terminal services starts working, I thought I could view the whole boot process since the KVM uses a different IP address.

Just wondering.
I don't want to waste tech supports time yet when I know Kevin lurks around these forums from time to time...haha.

A couple chassis will drop the power on the USB ports during a reboot which will cause the KVM to reboot, which is what you're seeing.

If the server snags up during the boot process, you'll see it as soon as the KVM comes back online.

On those servers that drop the usb power on reboot, will the lantronix allow you to choose a redhat kernel for example (does the lantronix come back online quickly enough?)

Dropping USB power would make sense and the rebooting of the KVM explains why I loose that.

Mine doesn't come back quickly enough to choose safe mode in Windows if I had to.
That kind of defeats the purpose I think.
I have caught it right at the end of the splash screen in the past but mostly I cannot get back in until I see "loading settings."

It seems like a design flaw that they don't have their own power source... or is it only the older servers that cut power to the usb upon boot?

Yeah, a serious design flaw! ohmy.gif Seems that would need to be completely redundant independent of whatever's going on with the box.

Probably works great on the newer servers with native USB support (because there would not be any PS2 ports on the motherboard).
However, I bet the KVM still wouldn't come online quick enough to get into the BIOS or access PERC settings.

Sadly, most likely true... sad.gif

All I can say is, I am glad I didn't need to get into safe mode for an emergency.
Paying $30 a month and it not work up to what should be expected would have made me very ill.
Needless to say, I did not get one on the new server I just ordered last Thursday (which I am still waiting for...).
