I am considering adding NAS backups to my 2 ded servers....but I've no idea on whether or not this is "better" than just scheduling w2k3 to make nightly backups...

A search here has been unfruitful...so I thought I'd ask users....

Advice here lads?

?

If you have multiple servers with free disk space, you could always backup to eachother too which would be about the same as using the NAS ftp space to put your backups to.

Not a bad idea, Jeff...never thought of that. Now, gotta find out how to do this... :-)

I wrote simple batch files for either xcopy (windows) or a .bat that launches a .scr with the needed ftp info for FTP.
I then set the batch files to run via windows scheduler.
(I use NTbackup so the batch files don't copy actual files in the open).

If you use windows sharing protocol's, I recommend using IPSEC and creating a policy to allow only the IP address of your other server to have that type of access to your server.

I also use LogMeIn backup in other environments and I use it to backup my backup server to my office.
