How do we go about requesting the MySQL plugin for an R1Soft CDP server? I read on the forum that TP offered it for about $30?

You should be able to add it to your account through our sales department, though I'm sure support will play a bit of a role in adding it to your account and making sure everything is functional.

Is it 30$ one time or per month?

Is it still available as for today(December 28 2008) at that same price?

Unfortunately this isn't an area Kevin or I can help much with... So, I suggest contacting sales to get the details worked out.

Hi,

Just to update that the MySQL plugin is $30USD/month and is greatly working for us. Just open a ticket in orbit and it was added shortly after.

Please note that cPanel customer can't restore MySQL from the CDP server. Only admin can restore MySQL databases. I've read that maybe CDP 3.x could have it implemented.

We think that it's better to not give access to the /etc directory to users to restore MySQL databases as a security issues at this point.

Anyway, We really like the CDP server solution from The Planet!

Thanks for the update! It's cool to see people really getting into CDP. I really like having a control panel to verify when the backups were created, when it last ran successfully, etc.

We use CDP and the MySQL Plugins on about 40 of our servers currently. Our users love it.

A little expensive, when we have more than 100 servers to maintain, but at least the 40 servers that are being backed up have very happy users.

Do you find that the MySQL restoration functions are fairly easy to use?

It's scary to see stories about database losses like what happened to JournalSpace, so it really just takes one "need to use this backup" instance to make years of investing in that backup worthwhile.

I wonder what is gonna happen to the guy that they are addressing in it that destroyed everything. Bet that'll look good on his resume. Hell, I put backups before the real thing, lol. I rather have my disc with stuffed categorized and backed up than to just be running. I dunno why... just seems safer to not be able to be tampered with I guess.

No kidding, I lost a local development machine due to a hard disk controller failure, everything backed up bar /var/lib/mysql - VERY frustrating icon_sad.gif

Now, I've gone the other way, you can never have too many backups icon_smile.gif

It usually takes one major loss, and you learn to keep backups. Mine was a laptop, it had 2 years worth of random projects I had been working on, on it.

I haven't learnt when it comes to my home pc though... backups are MONTHS out of date icon_biggrin.gif

The only reason I've got a recent backup of my computer at home is because I recently upgraded and had to migrate everything. That can be an expensive "backup reminder," though. icon_mrgreen.gif

I've got 600GB of media backups that I should backup so I don't have to back them up from each disc again... I won't lose the data, but... the process is enough of a pain to have a backup of my backups....

I see you like to backup, so I installed a backup in your backup so you can backup while you backup.
