Hello,

I have a few servers that have a strange file that grows non-stop in C:\WINDOWS\system32 the file is called mondump.txt

I can't figure out what application is creating this file so I can kill it.

Tonight I had a disk space problem and I checked and this file had grown to a whopping 4.5 Gig.

The only thing I could find about this on the web was
http://www.itnewsgroups.net/group/microsof.../topic5535.aspx

But this guy only made the file read only to stop it.

That's not a good solution for me. I want to know what application is making this file so I can kill it or disable the creation of it.

Does anyone know ?

Thank you for your helpful info rolleyes.gif

Have you tried to run Filemon or Procmon? That should show you which process/application is accessing that file and then it should be easy to trace back to the application.

Does the eventvwr.exe show any applications crashing frequently? It's either a program using MSSQL or it's MSSQL itself.

MDA table dump. This dumps the current server state - an composite report of everything going on at the current time. The purpose of this procedure is for post-mortems of problems on production systems where you do not have time to actually figure out why there is a problem because you must fix that problem immediately. Run sp__mondump, fix the problem, and then look at the output later to diagnose.
