Hi,
I currently own a server at The Planet. Unfortunately, due to various reasons, I will be ending my service here within the next couple of months.
I am interested to know what procedures The Planet takes towards ensuring data cannot be retrieved by subsequent users of the system and it's parts via data retrieval software etc.
A lot of personal and confidential information is stored on my server, and I'm sure I am not speaking alone when I say this.
I am assuming The Planet does not dispose of HDD's after a customer ends their service here.
Should I do anything myself to securely erase data before I shut down the server? Anyone else thought about this?
Thanks in advance,

Our AP system destroys the data at the beginning stages of an order when it gets assigned. While this is a fairly secure process, not all details I can disclose, I'd never discourage you to take the extra measures to destroy any data. Beyond pulverization or degaussing, there are very little techniques will guarantee 100%.

I would use an application to destory any data on any additional drives then pay to have the AP take place before I discontinued use of the primary drive.
(It will/should get run again by TP regardless when the next customer takes the server).
I am not sure if AP takes care of secondary drives (I had an issue with a secondary drive in a new server a few years back).
Like Tomy said, software cannot fully destroy data but anything can help get it to that point.
