I've heard good things about The Planet and am looking to switch from my current VPS.

I am not a system administrator but I do know how to use the command line... I just can't possibly do everything.

I know The Planet has 24/7 support, but was wondering what exactly this support covered?

If I am having troubles installing or configuring something, am I able to get assistance with that? I know how to set up what's needed for a web server, but I've never set up DNS records "manually" or anything like that, for example.

Basically, just wanted to get an idea what sort of support I can expect and what is/is not covered. Thanks!

Regular support will not be able to help you with this. I was once told "Our job is to give you a working box, network and electricity" but they seem to help out with a little more now than when I was told that.

With that said, I was just like you a few years ago. Getting a server with cPanel sure made the learning process easier, but you may want to consider paying for The Planet's "Professional Services" - Per-hour server management so when you run in to something urgent, you can use it.
