Hello.

It's hard to find up to date informations about r1soft.
I see lots of people telling baremetal is great, but several informations are missing in documentation an tutorials.

------------------

I have a r1soft server backing up all the data.

I need to know 2 things that I didn't find anywhere. I looked for a lot in all foruns and domumentations.

1 - I set the backup to backup all the server content (all partitions), except the /backup drive.
>> That's the best to do? Backup from CDP seems to be OK since I can restore files, directories etc without any difficulty.

2 - That's the most important question.
I have a server in H1 phase 1 and after the outage, server was compromised.
I tried to do the baremetal restore several times with no success.
I always receive error messages and server freezes during the restore.
I think I'm configuring something wrong.

Does anyone has an easy step-by-step tutorial? The r1soft domumentation refers to an old version of CDP server.

>> Do I need to perform an OS reload in the server and install Cpanel again?
After the OS relaod, I'm chosing "baremetal restore".
Then I chose the best versions of all partitions to backup.
Then I click to restore, but there are some options and I think here is the problem.
Do I need to set "recreate swap partition", reboot server?

I really don't know If the OS reaload is necessary and If I should mark recreate swap partition.

>> Do I have to install linux agent and live-boot to perform this tasks?

I see everyone saying that baremetal restore was very easy, but I'm having some difficulty to run it.

Please, give me some suggestions or help.

Thanks s lot,
Yuri

Hello Yuri,

When doing a bare metal restore, you will want to make sure the CDP server software is updated to the most recent version. Some of the older versions do not have all the capabilities for a bare metal restore.

Once you have done that, then use the instructions here:

http://docs.r1soft.com/mergedProjects/Linu...ot_Software.htm

This will basically install R1soft's recovery environment on top of an existing linux environment that will allow you to restore all the partitions as they were when they were backed up. It is critical that you are in this environment whether by livecd or by this utility so that your server can be restored properly. As with any backup software, if you attempt to do a bare metal restore on a regular linux install, you will run into problems when critical parts of the operating system are overwritten.
