Full Version: DNS problems Sunday / Monday

We, and by the looks of it quite a few other users, experienced DNS problems with domains on ns1/ns2.theplanet.com on Sunday / Monday (from maybe around 8pm GMT Sunday, 18th May as far as I can tell).

It looks like there were a couple of servers in the DNS round-robin list which were incorrectly configured and returning false information, giving the impression that some domains hosted at The Planet couldn't be found. This caused some disruption to email traffic and particularly external APIs which access services on our server and which had cached the "bad" DNS information.

I filed a ticket and received a response along the lines of "yes we know and are working on it", but while the problem seems to have been resolved the ticket is still open and I haven't seen any kind of announcement.

As this issue seems to have affected quite a few people, I would expect some kind of announcement / explanation / statement e.g. in the System and Network Status. (If there was one, please tell me where it is so I know where to look in future). Sh*t happens, but it's useful for me (and no doubt others) who have to report on this kind of issue to have something definitive to reference, as it did have some effect on our business.

Are you still experiencing this problem? There's another thread where others are if you're interested:

ns1/2.theplanet.com should not be affected by the recent issues.
Only customers on ns1/2/5/6.ev1servers.net were affected during the recent issues. We are working on building out the redundancy of these farms to prevent an issue like this from impacting service going forward.
