Full Version: A TON of bounced emails coming in

Someone has managed to put my email address as the Reply-To for their spamming efforts. As a result, I'm getting a ton of bounced emails... "failure notice" and "Message Delivery Failure" etc.

Any way to stop this at the server? Suggestions?

Well, I came here due the same problem. So, you are not alone. Will look forward to see if some solution shows up in this topic.

I'm also seeing one of my emails put as the return-path but with randomized reply-to and from; but the bounces from thsi spammer are all coming to the return-path which they've put as one of my emails.

One temporarily solution is to just /dev/null everything with mailer daemon, mail delivery subsystem, etc. until it subsides, but then of course you won't get any indication if a legitimate mail you send bounces.

On the cpanel forum it was mentioned that mailscanner can put a fingerprint string on all outgoing email messages and then any bounces that don't contain that fingerprint are not accepted.

Oh, that is beautiful! I'll have to play around with that one.

Yes. It can. It's called watermarking. I forget what version it started in, but it's certainly in the latest version.

I started getting this today as well.... I don't think mine are because of them putting me as the reply-to field. It seems as if they are sending as me and then its bouncing back...

Anyone have any ideas?
