Full Version: Another server resolves to my IP

I just got a new server. When I asked the planet to add an spf file to a domain, some of the emails started bouncing. I found that another server, server01.hoservers.com.br resolves to my IP which is 70.87.163.130.

The IP number is listed in the http://whois.registro.br as belonging to server01.hoservers.com.br (not my server) but with my IP address. I went to the website of whois.registro.br. It is in Spanish. I don't speak Spanish. I sent them an email in English. No reply.

This is preventing me from using spf files, and I don't know what other problems it may be causing. When you point your browser to http://server01.hoservers.com.br it comes up to my virtual website hostwithmost.net. My server name is server04.hostwithmost.net

I asked tech support and they said to contact the owner of the domain and tell them to reconfigure their nameservers. Since there is a language difference in the first place, and no real email address for the owner of the domain, this is next to impossible to accomplish.

Anyone have any ideas of what I can do?

Thanks

So just to clarify, there is a domain name that resolves to your server, that you don't want to resolve to your server?

Exactly.

Micki,

The issue isn't that server01.hoservers.com.br points to your IP, it's that your IP reverses to server01.hoservers.com.br. I went ahead and set the PTR records for your IP to server04.hostwithmost.net. which should propagate in 2-48 hours.

Short of contacting the domain owner, there's very little that can be done about the domain resolving to your IP, but it won't affect the performance of your server... other than maybe a few extra potential customers!

Thank you so much.
I believe your Tech Support staff should receive more training in when to bump up a problem to senior techies. I just went through one nightmare of getting a new server whose main IP was on more than 26 different spam lists. The conflicting info I got caused me tons of needless work and many dissatisfied domain owners. I finally got this new server and abandoned the spam one. When I found this one had a problem too I was about to give up webhosting in frustration.
