Full Version: Switching off bounce notification to external addresses

Hi,

I just noticed that my server is struggling to keep up with the load due to 18000 messages waiting in the (Exim) mail queue to be processed. I had a closer look at the messages and it appears that, appart from the regular spam, there are quite a lot of bounce notifications to (forged) spam senders.

So, is there any way to keep the server from sending bounce notifications to e-mail addresses belonging to third party mailservers? Or if that is no possible, how do I switch off bounce notifications alltogether?

Thanks for your help,

Adrian
Jeff
Are you using a control panel, or no control panel?

If you were using WHM for example, I would say to check whether your default address is set to fail (at time of incoming mail connection) and not bounce (but as far as I know you'd have to do a find and replace to change it for existing legacy accounts that have it set to bounce.)

I am indeed using WHM. Thanks for the excellent suggestion, looks like this should solve my problem.

Thanks again,

Adrian
