Full Version: DiskSync on 64-bit Linux?

Hi,

We have two servers both running RHEL4 on x86_64 (one is an Opteron, one is a Xeon). We have been running DiskSync on server1 (the Opteron) for about a year now. We recently asked for DiskSync to be installed on server2 but where told it's not compatible with 64-bit linux! ohmy.gif

Is anyone else running DiskSync on a 64-bit Xeon? Or does anyone know why they're saying it's not supported on x86_64 considering we've been running it on that for over a year now?

Hello Marc,

That is true, Disksync for linux is only 32-bit. Although to elaborate on the issue a bit more, it is possible to run the 32-bit binary on a 64-bit version of linux but this is not supported (by our upstream software provider). As with running any 32-bit binary in 64-bit linux, the necessary compatibility libraries and environment are required. While we are more than happy to help you with setting up Disksync, installing the 32-bit compatibility environment is not something we can do for you (without admin time). Even then, unfortunately we cannot guarantee that is will work 100% for you or that we can resolve an issue that might arise. However, as you've probably seen as long as it is working, it works. If you still want Disksync on your 64-bit linux servers regardless, you would need to install the 32-bit libraries before ordering it. This should allow the Agent to install and then the order can go through as normal. Its usually when we are unable to install the Agent on 64-bit linux that we must cancel the order.

You might consider looking into the R1soft backup solution we're offering though as an alternative. Both the server and agent software run natively on 64-bit linux. I don't know if you would need it or not but it also has plugins for backing up mysql and control panels, unlike Disksync for linux. Not that I want to sound like I'm trying to sell you a product, but the R1soft backup software is much better suited for linux than Disksync is, generally speaking. While Disksync is also a great solution, it is mostly designed for Windows.

Don't worry about selling me something, I'm looking to buy something biggrin.gif Is the R1soft the dedicated backup server or is it somewhere else on the website? I just see Disksync and NAS as options for backup solutions on a new server order?

Hi Marc,

Thats correct. The R1soft CDP software is the backup software that runs on the dedicated backup server. This server would be managed by you, and of course we would still support it.

You probably already have seen this, but here's the link for it:
