I've seen it asked but never really answered... so I'm asking one more time:

Will upgrading the version of OpenSSL via yum, RPM packages (or other methods) cause Plesk to break? By break, I mean will the Contol Panel still work in general and work for installing/removing/self-signing/etc certificates via the "Certificates" section of Control Panel?

The reason for asking is 2-fold. First, some things DO work by just a simple update/upgrade... however, there are also lots of examples where people post "Help! I updated X and it broke Y in Plesk!". Secondly, OpenSSL seems fairly well integrated in Plesk and, as mentioned below, the version Plesk uses is so old that certain syntax has changed. It's hard to imagine this wouldn't throw something off balance somewhere.

I know that some software can be an older version yet patched for vulnerabilities (then versioned like 0.9.7e-32). Now, the version of openSSL installed with Plesk v8.3.0 is STILL v0.9.7e from Oct-25-2004 while v0.9.8g is available !!! I haven't checked if this is actually a "newer" version because, frankly, I don't give a damn. This version is nearly FOUR (4) YEARS OLD! In all that time, Plesk hasn't decided to at least bump it up to v0.9.8x ?! Do they realize that syntax has actually changed for some command line arguments? Pathetic.

I appologize for blowing off this steam in here, but apparently I have to register before I can post over at Parallels/SWsoft... and I was already hoisting my laptop towards a window. blush.gif

Thanks to anyone with insight into this mini-mystery,
