I just installed CentOS 5 and now when I use my ssh client (secureCRT) I'm having issues. When I use nano and I start to scroll down the file it doesn't scroll properly, it jumps to the middle of the screen and it gets all wonky.. (very technical term there.) I've got the client setup for xterm and the server's httpd.conf file is set to use standard iso-8859-1 or whatever is configured for the browser. I'm also using the default shell that centOS comes preconfigured with.

So, my questions are as follows:

What is the correct terminal emulation to use?
What is a better shell to use with centOS?
Where is a good resource for centOS admin stuff... from shell etc...

Thanks.
Jeff
Hmm... I have secureCRT set to emulation VT220 or Linux. Somehow I have a feeling that we're not talking about the same thing, but maybe we are - plain old text-mode shell access?

Here is what I'm talking about...

www.galacticzero.net/image/scrt1.avi and www.galacticzero.net/image/securecrt-centos.avi

Notice how nano works.. I can use vi without a problem but my vi skills are very very very rusty. Have to break out the cheat sheets. Don't have emacs installed nor pico.

Session options tried for emulation are vt100, vt200, linux, xterm, xterm with keyboard set to xterm and in advanced options terminal type checked and set to putty.

I've had tech support from vandyke looking at this and testing it and they are seeing alot of what I am. Said that there is an issue with how secureCRT is interperting or sending escape code to centOS...

This is my current build: Version 5.1.4 (build 285) , vandyke said that their engineers are looking at this and it may come out in a maintenance release but more likely a new version which would be 7 as 6 is the current release. Haven't tried 6 yet however.
