We would appreciate some information or a nudge in the right direction regarding the moving of a complete cPanel and RHE environment from one server to a new server at The Planet.

Hostname will have to stay the same. IP address will stay the same according to The Planet as they will move the new server to the same rack as the old server.

The current plan is to backup to a drive on the old server. Move that drive to the new server then do a full system restore. In theory this seems like it would work. Our biggest concern is the probability of losing mail during the time the backup is occurring and the restore is complete and the new server racked.

Has any one had a similar situation?

You could just transfer the accounts from one cPanel server to the next via WHM >> Transfers.

We thought about that but decided to try to replicate the accounts from one server to another by backing up to a drive then restoring that drive onto the new server. What do you think?

Will they charge you admin time to move the drive? If so then it may not be worth it monetarily.

When you transfer the sites via cPanel, it copies them and does not delete the original install. That way you will have mirror images of both sites on 2 different servers.

They will move the drive and the new server into the same space occupied by the old server. We need to be able to keep the original IP and this is the only way they said they can do it. Will moving accounts from one server to another preserve all settings, databases, addin applications and libraries? We have also added various security addons such as APF and MailScanner that we were hoping to keep by doing a full system backup and restore.
