Hello,

Our server has become unreachable 3 times in a month to the point that it had to be hand rebooted. According to theplanet staff, the server ran out of memory. This server has very low traffic and it runs a php applications that for a long time ran on a shared server without any problems. We migrated it as is.

Question is, how can I find out in linux what is eating our memory ? Are there any logs or are there any programs I could install to track memory usage ?

Thanks so much.

free mem

also

top will show you the processes that are using the most CPU / MEM.

that will show you available physical memory, as well as swap.

Have you done any hardening / optimization of the server? Such as installing "SIM" to monitor processes...theres a few others out there I can't think of right now..I'll have to look it up or maybe someone else will know.
