Hi

I'm completely new to servers. I have been looking for a high-end machine to setup as a remote solver for computer simulations. I was considering this machine :

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/sea...p;sku=V133-3003

It says that it's a 2U Rackmount Server, so my question is :

Can I buy this, plug it in the wall and run it like a regular PC? Or do you need a special frame to put it in.

Thanks and sorry for this noob question.

You can do that - you're probably paying slightly more for a rackmount case than a tower case, but it allows you to later put it in a rack when you get 20 of em and run out of shelf space icon_smile.gif

There are even some chasis like http://supermicro.com/products/chassis/4U/ that have both rail kits and "feet and tops" to make them stand up as a tower easily and then slide into a rack's rails if someone wishes to rack them later on.
