Well it seems as this will not be added for some time.....COD 4

Per PD2, al you have to dois submit a support ticket via Orbit and poof your done....
NOT the case at all.
I submitted a support ticket and was told the game is not out yet....lol
I did this yesterday and YES the Game is OUT !

I talked on live chat and was told to put in a support ticket and the game would be installed Outside of Cortex.....OK, fine by me.

I then had the support ticket closed, then open and sent to the Cortec Dev. Dept.

I just called and was told to have COD4 added would be done as a professional service and cost $$.
Also told that COD4 is number 6 on the list to be installed via Cortex with no ETA.

Looks like this game will be done by my guess next month.

I guess the loss of Kevin and Josh was greater then anyonw could have thought.

This is a good reson to pull up stakes and move on.
No support and very little hope.

Hey, have you folks thought of hiring some support folks for Cortex, or, is it dead as suggested in these forums?

Regards
Todd

PS. If anyone from TP wants to view the ticket, just look in Orbit as it is the only one w have.....
DougK94
You can stay there at TP if you wish and run a different control panel. There are others around that CoD 4 will run under.

First, lets not mix my words here. What I told everyone was that submitting a ticket to place your request in the queue was better handled by submitting a ticket and not posting here. Cortex DEV and support do not come here to look for customer request of new games to be added - makes sense due to the fact that this is a forum and not a ticket response system.

Second, as for the adding of games, until the final communication comes from our management and communications team, what I was told, is support is still in tact and remaining the same regardless of any premature announcements and discussions that have gone out to date. I wish the communications would have never went out - no, not to hide things from any one or to be deceptive (another nice little twist on things that many have tried to inject here). I wish it would have never went out as there was NO completion of thought around what to do, what to support, how to do it, who will do it, what will do, etc, etc. The easiest thing for any company to do is say "Hey, we just will EOL a product or service." The hardest thing to do is to come up with the right operational procedure of how to continue to maintain a customer base that does stay and get grandfathered in under a product. Call it an exclusive access if you will or whatever you want. Yeah, I understand that it does not feel exclusive because responses are slow to no responses and the support team has a mix bag of responses to customers - NEVER a good thing. But again, that reitterates the fact that we STILL have no official plan to release to the public and the information that came out about the EOL should have NEVER been released in such a premature state. So until then, we have plenty of speculation and personal perspective (neither of which has any rooting or grounding in what the real answers WILL be) and thus people are making decisions based off of that.

Third and as DougK94 so nicely put it, many people are ruling out the options of just staying right where you are and just changing the control panel you use. Yes its possible that other control panels are not as good or for that matter other services do not give you the ranking that you got here. Totally understandable. But not EVERYONE is going to fall into that category. Many people made the choice to ditch ranked servers due to the inability to have root access to everything and went unranked here and are just as happy. Others have left and went to other companies and that is fine too. Everyone will have to make their own decisions based upon what makes the servers and services provided by The Planet most valuable. If you can't find one thing valuable about the choices you have in front of you, then you will make your decisions accordingly to take care of your user base and business.

With all of that being said, I NEVER like nor want to see anyone go away nor go away mad. I have tried to be as helpful as I can during these times and issues and even in this premature EOL announcement. And for that matter I'll continue to be as helpful as possible. So, for anyone that needs a ticket looked at or an issue escalated, please feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll have a look to see what I can do.

Kindest and Best Regards to all!

Well, what is done is done.
COD4 will be added "maybe" in the near future.......

As for staying here when you have a I365/Cortex box....duh....why?

Sure I can add a differant control panel....but why?

Like getting a Corvette and putting in a Pinto motor.....makes no sense.

The cost of servers is higher then many other places and the cost to add a new control panel just adds to it.

So keeping a Cortex box and not running Cortex is IMHO ...dumb.

Support should be given fast.
If that means that customers that want the game installed outside Cortex to have it "the game" up and running....well just do it.

As for I365 promoting that they are the GSP's , GSP. Well, very bad ad. If you can not get a game engine installed untill a month or more after the game comes out....let alone the day it comes out, why waste your time and money on them.
In the world of GSP's it's about being ON TIME.

I have always worked with TP in getting things solved and never, ever complained on the forums.

Until now.

This is not going to cut it one bit.
All the new games that were released have no time frame on getting into Cortex.
Just that they are in que......WOW.

To keep a more costly Cortex box and use another control panel is not good biz sense.
Cheaper to go with a better priced server and TP does have some of the highest priced servers out there.

Just install the game....heck, upload the game files outside Cortex and that will make tons of folks happy...I know I would be.

No it does not voliate anything, as Cortex has the very same files in it........"I knew what you were thinking"
Creed3020
Solution: Ditch the expensive hardware here because quite frankly the prices here are no longer competitive, get a different control panel, and wow you even come out ahead....our at least we did, and nameless others.

Don't expect to see COD4 anytime soon. Support may still be "in tact" but that doesn't mean anything is going to happen.

Sorry if this sounds all to cynical PD2 but actions have been speaking a lot louder than your forum posts.

Thanks Paul, but I think the control panel I use is better than Cortex icon_smile.gif ...and I am not saying that Cortex is not a good one icon_smile.gif

People's options for Cortex as I see it vary as to if they are reselling game servers or if they are using it for personal or clan use.

For personal or clan usage:
  • Stay exactly like you are and wait to see what TP decides to do with Cortex.
  • Keep your Cortex box(es) for ranked BF2 and BF2142
  • Reload some or all of your box(es) and install a different control panel on it.
  • Find a new server provider that provides another control panel.
  • Rent individual game servers from another provider instead of having a dedicated server
For GSP usage:
  • Stay exactly like you are and wait to see what TP decides to do with Cortex.
  • Keep your Cortex box(es) for ranked BF2 and BF2142
  • Reload some or all of your box(es) and install a different control panel on it.
  • Find a new server provider that provides another control panel.
  • Become a ranked provider yourself and use a different control panel on a box(es) here at TP or from another provider.
  • Close up your GSP since Cortex may be no more
I am sure there are other options available too. If Cortex is EOL'ed, it is not the end of the world, there are many options available icon_smile.gif

No offense taken and as I have said countless times, I can empathize and understand exactly where you ALL come from with the responses.

TP,

I do agree - service should be fast, effective and consistent with only the best, world class quality that you can get for the money you all spend here. I have attempted to squeeze as much of that as I possibly can from the resources we have. Obviously, that may be some of the most clearest reasons that The Planet has made these decisions - not being able to maintain the class/level of support that the customer's demand, need, require and deserve. Personally, I think that is a great basis for a decision to head in the direction they did. Is that the ultimate or real reason? I have no freakin clue! Believe it or not, I was not included in any of those discussions and decisions and those sorts of things are above my pay grade here. What is not above my pay grade here is trying to do what I can, when I can to give you, our customers as much information, support, help and anything else that drives your satisfaction. I know that your satisfaction has been less than unsatisfied and probably down right way below acceptable. Again, something else to probably add to the list of why EOL this software. But understand, these are also the reasons why I'm fairly upset at the fact that we prematurly released the info before we had any plans or clear communications in place. It is doing nothing but aggitating a situation that is already at a level that is disgusted and unsatisfied. And for that, I'm sorry and sorry that it is taking so long to get you and the rest of the community the information you need to clear understand what will be done. Yes, you can assume and see writings on the wall etc., but much of what you are seeing is still based in total confusion and zero communications of what will be done ultimately.

I'm sorry to see a lot of you leave. You have to make the right choices and decisions for your company - I would if I was in any of ya'lls position. For that I do not fault you or even think that you are wrong for doing it. It's smart business sense and definitely something that is a perfectly natural response. I was just saying that as DougK94 mentioned that if you have liked the network, hardware, and the general support of your servers, all of that is still capable via our normal server line with you having the power to choose other gaming control panels to bring to your server here. Again, your choice, but one that many may not have considered.

Maybe if we all wished really hard the planet Gods will smile and bring us a new cod 4 engine install before Thanksgiving?

I don't really care either way. I never even really used Cortex anyway.

I'm here because TP has one of the best damn data centers / network that I've been on.
Rotary
Same here, but now I dont have a reason to stay unless their updating cortex.

They may have excellent datacenters & network but I believe their hardware offerings for the prices have been slipping comparing to their competitors.

Also support is nowhere near what it was once like. And I don't just say that because of them dropping the ball on Cortex.

What I am glad to hear you say is that you are not reliant on Cortex. Though Rotary here on the other hand requires it to accomplish what he requires.

It may take some time, but I think they will come back around again.

When I ordered one of the new dual core xeons a while back (upgraded my Dual 2.8ghz xeon box) the slipped up when they built the server and actually gave me quite a bit more CPU than what I was paying for icon_smile.gif

So I'm happy with the price right now...lol

I have had them "slip" too when provisioning a server for me...maybe like a big slip... icon_mrgreen.gif

I've always been pleased with the support and service TP has offered until now.
TP
Support is now lacking.
They treat long standing customers with many server like joe blow dumb a$$

Cortex is not getting any more attention then my wife.

Games ser dead and will not get a defib.

A World Class Company should not act like this...not to it's customers that made it a WCC....errr

We now get less then stellar support and no support for there grand I265 Cortex servers.

This is a total shame and disgrace to The Planet.

Hoep all the Corp stuff paid off because you are lossing your loyal customers by the dozens.

Once loyal Customer.

Yeah this current slip is really nice icon_smile.gif

Last time they slipped up, was when I ordered the unmetered 20Mbps servers. Something screwed up somewhere and I was pushing at least 50Mbps out of that server for $199/month...lol

I was a good honest customer though and told them about it icon_sad.gif
Gorrdy
This certainly isnt a "slip up" and anyone expecting a "oh wait, Cortex is all fixed and up and running" announcement is on glue. blush.gif

You dont let customers and their $$$$ slip away daily if your going to continue the current support setup.
TP
Tis sad to say the least............

Come on guy;s get it toget her.
You have one chance to save me and others as loyal customers...do you wnat us or not ??
Creed3020
The slips I was refering to was in regards to ordering servers. Nothing to do with Cortex and how screwed up TP is. I am not saying they are going to fix this. Only way they are going to do that is refund us all a large chunk of change for service they did not offer.

thedude: That must have been really nice. My slip was when I ordered a P4 2.8 and got a Dual Xeon 2.8....whoops guess the tech slipped when he pressed which server to setup. Oh well, we got good service out of the box and paid our bills in a timely manner for the two years we were here.
