Mr Madness
Just a question as to when QWET will be added to the games you will be supporting. I know you guys there are short handed, but I m sure there are alot of us out here who would like to know. Especially with COD4 around the corner as well. Will you all be ready for that on the release date?

Thanks in advance.

This is what we are currently going with as the official "party" platform.... icon_eek.gif

All,

Here was an update from Zach in Cortex DEV that I figured would be beneficial to all, even though it was directly related to one person's ticket:

Medal of Honor: Airborne is going to be released into Cortex first, followed by ETQW and TF2 (not necessarily that order, maybe a simultaneous release).

I'm not going to give any ETA at this time, but please keep an eye out for news through Cortex

I've been working with management and upper management to get a strong support team assembled for Cortex, in the meantime I appreciate your patience with things.

Yup that is the reply I get in all my tickets that I open.

That is the only answer I can give you, sorry. Have to wait for someone from TP to sing to a different tune. Though I don't see that happening.
Mr Madness
Well thanks for your time man, I kinda figured thats the answer I was gonna get, but hell you can only hope for something better. icon_rolleyes.gif

Bad enough getting shafted by gaming companies with half done games...erm. Stillborne, but now we cant get answers from the GSP about setting up servers.

Ok this is the way that I see it right now. The Planet knows full well that the cortex project is in some pretty deep sh** right now. The problem is that they dont have the proper staff/resources right now to deal with the problem. Yes they say that they are working on assembling a team, but that could take months. I am giving The Planet about 1 more month, and if I dont see any action in them, I believe that Im going to have to force myself to switch to Hypernia. I dont want to do it because of the ease of management that you get with cortex, but it is getting to the point that it isnt worth waiting for something to happen here anymore. Me being a customer to The planet that spends almost $500 every month on servers, The Planet will be loosing a good and loyal customer. Thats my two cents on the situation.

Liltechdude
Mr Madness
That is the same way our clan is running at the present moment as well... End of the month and we look at options, because as of now we still have no server for QWET and we dont want to miss out on the COD4 release. Stillborne was a bust so there is no reason to even talk about that.
liltechdude14
Well to tell you the truth, I look at Hypernia more and more and the system they have setup is great. You get remote desktop access even if your server is ranked. I find that very unique since past TP employees told me that it was impossible for customers to have that due to EA and all their bullshit (excuse my french). Plus the way they make it look, you get an 8 core server for $350 a month (I may be mistaken but it says 2x Clovertown Quad core). Not to mention you can get a new game as soon as it comes out, all you have to do is ask them to install it for you (yes a downside, but hey it beats waiting weeks for stuff to be updated on cortex). Id have to fix the problem of a control panel for my customers, but hey TCAdmin isnt too expensive, and I have tried it out and it seems pretty user friendly, almost friendlier than Cortex. Well If I decide to go to Hypernia this month, I will post some things in here about them.

Insomnia never said EA does not allow it, they said that when they developed the ranking system for Cortex they found ways to hack into setups like Hypernias. Because of that they decided against it. They did not want to risk losing their ranked status if someone got it and distributed the ranked files.

Also, unless something has changed, PD2 comments about EA changing the root password is bogus. I spoke with Kevin and Logan, back in the day, many times about ranked servers and this was never an issue. Insomnia just chose not to give root access because of the above mentioned issue.

There is more to a processor than how many cores it has. Those cores run at 1.86 Ghz which is fine if the game server is multi-threaded or an older game. But new games that are resource intensive and only run on one core, i.e. BF2/2142 it may get tight with a full server. Probably not for BF2, but a 48 man titan server may use up 1 core of that 1.86Ghz Clovertown. My 50 man titan used to use 70% cpu for a 2.4 Ghz Conroe. Drop that speed 600Mhz and you may be close to 90%.

People that rely on Cortex to resell game servers should not be in the business IMO. Also if you start reselling ranked 2142 or Quake Wars servers you server won't be ranked very long. tongue.gif

Any comment you make about how great Hypernia is will last about 5 minutes until the forum moderators delete it so I would leave that to emails and PMs.
Mr Madness
Well thanks for the insight all, We just want to get our new games running for our members, and hate this being left in the dark about things. Kinda rough when your dealing with 30 people paying dues wondering WTF is going on.

Maybe we can talk sometime Doc, you may know a decent deal for our needs if TP doesnt get its act together.

Thanks

Hhhhmmm - then Doc, you know a lot more than me right now as that is what Zach and even Sassan (another individual who backed and supported Cortex most recently) told me about the setups on Ranked servers. If this is the case then I don't understand why they do not release the username and password for the server or for that matter why we don't see it in the customer's account? At any rate, don't shoot the messenger that brought the message.

Could you make Cortex so it's not accessable by remote users, but would allow remote users access to all other functions of the server. This would be really great, so I no longer have to submit a support ticket to get my hard drive defragged, or ask help installing a new game. It would reduce the number of support tickets, and allow the customer a little more freedom with their servers.

Thanks for listening! biggrin.gif

Hello Gator777!

Thanks for the feedback and information! That is definitely something that I can take back to the Cortex DEV team to see if maybe they can incorporate that into Cortex. I do appreciate you giving us feedback as this does help us evolve the product for the next release(s).

Best Regards!

PD2,

Do you think it is possible that maybe just maybe we can get an update as to what is going on?? I mean come on, Don't you think this is a horrible way of doing business with your paying customers??

Leaving us in the dark about when we might be able to start running servers with "NEW" games is ridiculous. What you are leaving us to to do is to look at other options and move elsewhere.

Communication is necessary here. Im not trying to make this an "EA" forum and sound like a friggen whiner, but what the hell are we paying for if we cant even get an answer? Im not talking about your standard reply being sent out either.

Thanks

Doc, appreciate the response, will be in touch.

Mr Madness,

I am trying to get one and fortunately enough I just got an e-mail from our Director of Development with a little information. I'm not exactly sure when it happened, but, it appears that they have applied a few extra resources to Cortex and that tickets are getting addressed more on a daily basis. Now, in looking through the ticket logs in Orbit, it appears that this is true, but yes, there are several tickets that are still pending an update from us. So maybe we will be making some positive head way. As soon as I know more I'll be sure to let you guys know.

I am trying to give you guys the best communications I have right now and as much as possible. I'm just sorry that its not more frequent or at the frequency level that you guys liked when Kevin and others were hanging out here all the time. Hopefully we can get back there soon.

If you have a specific ticket in right now, shoot that to me and I'll see what I can do as far as getting a better update or an escalation of it.

Kind regards,

If the forums would not have been cleaned out at the merger, I could reference a million Cortex forum posts, from former cortex developers, that stated what I mentioned earlier. Also I don't expect Kevin or Logan to come here and back me up since they do not want to shoot their job reference in the foot. I still stand behind my previous comments and if anyone wants some more info please contact me.
Mr Madness
Thanks for the quick response.

Hopefully with more "resources" things will get ironed out soon for everyone. This is (Im sure I speak for a lot of people) is all we need. At least letting us know what is going on and hopefully seeing some activity on TP's end will be a step in the right direction. I will talk to my group and get our ticket to you. Hopefully you will be able to help us out.

Our official response is we're looking into seeing what we can do, but I'm not really sure that we can find a secure methood for getting you guys desktop access on your ranked boxes. We tried to find a way to do this back when we started this whole ranking thing, and for every idea we thought of we thought of a way to break it. We'll keep poking at it though.

Hey Doc,

I'm not questioning you or trying to throw doubt into what you stated. I was serious when I said that you probably know more than I do or better than I do. As I said, I'm not a gamer and I definitely don't play one on TV. tongue.gif I was purely repeating what little I was trained and told about Cortex and Ranked servers at this point. The rest is still in flux and I'm still trying to figure out how best to help everyone here that is frustrated and angry about the current situation with Cortex. I don't believe its right, but I do believe, with what I have heard and seen today, that we may be getting resources headed in the right direction now. Not sure how big of an impact they will have here in the forums, but via the tickets and backend it appears a few more resources have come to Zach/Cortex DEV's help. Time will only tell, right?

This is really a sad state of affairs......

The Planet has really only one person to work on Cortex Dev : Sassan

With the loss of Kevin and Josh "aka: Logan" "kinda crappy how they gave him a new name because someone already had HIS name." I feel that things with Cortex will be tutle slow at best.

Yes you can get access to desktop with Hypernia, and yes I365 choose not to allow it. This is right from the "then" horses mouth.

So, Dev team. Give us some new a good I hope news.

As far as I know Sassan Dibadj connection to I365 is that he is the Product Line Manager and handles which servers/configurations will be offered.

He has a forum account, and it would nice to hear from him personally.

Sassan has a position in TP and does Insomnia as a side job for so this is not on his priority list. Not sure if he will show up.

Excatly, he is apart of I365 but by no means is he slaved to it.

I have a hard enough time getting a PM reply back from him, getting him to post might require further persausion.

Hi PD2, did you ever get a response from the Dev team concerning the possibility of "Ranked" server folks having semi-root access to the box? I cannot tell you how helpful this would be to us.

Thanks. biggrin.gif

Again I wouldn't count on having any access but it enters a huge grey area with EA and their regulations for Ranked Provider Status.

Back to the original intent of this topic Quake Wars / COD4,

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is not apart of that message, with the games release quickly coming up are there plans to support this game?

There was some discussion, even with Zach and I, about this, as well as it has been submitted, but as Creed is pointing out, it will take some negotiations with EA on ranked servers or some sort of "trust" establishment. Regardless, it's evident it will not be a quick fix.

Creed,

Not 100% sure, but you may want to add that to your ticket that you have open for COD4 to add to the things we need updates on right now.
