Who, where , when how can I get some help on getting a list of new games cortex will be offering? Will they be offering new games? blush.gif
doc
I am assuming you are a GSP that is relying on Cortex solely for business. If so good luck.

All I can give you from is Quote
"Here was an update from Zach in Cortex DEV that I figured would be beneficial to all, even though it was directly related to one person's ticket:

Medal of Honor: Airborne is going to be released into Cortex first, followed by ETQW and TF2 (not necessarily that order, maybe a simultaneous release).

I'm not going to give any ETA at this time, but please keep an eye out for news through Cortex

I've been working with management and upper management to get a strong support team assembled for Cortex, in the meantime I appreciate your patience with things."

So cross your fingers!

Hey thats great doc! I'm happy you figured it out all on your own like a big boy. That little black ball dropping from the bull on your photo. I'm assuming thats a personal photograph of yourself:)

How long did it take you to come up with that?

Tuxrox my point is there are other solutions out there. Sitting in these forums praying for a miracle is not going to change Cortex's status. Also, I don't get customers from these forums since most of them want an entire dedicated server and I only rent individual game servers.
nDemand.Gaming-Archangel
Probably about the same amount of time it took you to come up with

Semi off-topic, but have you considered the possibly of moving to another type of control panel? At least then you wouldn't be bound to what Cotrex is currently loaded with. Just a thought.

I enjoy cortex and am fairly new to it.
I was introduced to it whiel I was actually working at EV1 before they merged. I just want to know the status with new games icon_smile.gif It appears they're short on workers in the cortex department

There are plenty of control panels out there to manage a game server. If you need some suggestions let me know.

Actually, I made my own which works incredibly well (although I'm biased) and best of all I don't need to worry about some other company making updates or fixing bugs or supporting new games or licensing fees(!). I could give you a demo if you wanted to check it out.

Regardless, back on topic, I was more thinking along the lines of nDemand trying another solution so that he isn't locked into Cortex so much. TCAdmin, etc. At least that would help the situation a little bit. Hopefully Cortex will work the kinks out though.

Edit: nDemand, please free free to ask me to 'bugger off' if you feel I'm hijacking your thread. Sorry in advance.
nDemand.Gaming-Archangel
Hey whats up handlebar, I actually was just discussing with my partner who does most of our backend programming about creating our own control panel. Would love to check out your demo to see what you got.
nDemand.Gaming-Archangel
Hey, thanks doc
That would be cool. I'm fairly new to the gaming market but all is well on my end so far. Most of my server sales are for BF2 and Counterstrikes. But I'd like to be able to hit up the new games as well thats where my need to know the cotex situation comes in.

nDemand, I'll shoot you a pm.

TCadmin is probably the one most real GSPs use on this board. There are others however. Cortex is not a GSP panel, it's something for kiddies to use when they think this "game hosting thing" would be cool to try.

Cortex was the option at the time I wanted a ranked BF2 server.
No kiddies here. And why the hell would you say that to us?
Just feel like being a jerk I guess... To call ppl that use Cortex a little kid is just frickN stupid!

Theres only 1 GSP in that panels list I would ever even consider renting from btw.
nDemand.Gaming-Archangel
Hey, I wouldn't take it to heart jax. They're real Game Hosting Men icon_smile.gif

Actually I did think hosting a game server would be fun. And it has been. I've learned a pretty good bit, and enough to cover the cost of my server plus some. However, I'm not trying to go fortune 500 icon_smile.gif Its a hobby just like anything else.

BUT.. with any hobby, you always find those who think there wiser and better at it icon_wink.gif

Maybe you should consider getting another server without any control panel at all?

The best way to learn and host the various gametypes out there today is to host them without the help of any panel. You can use programs like Firedaemon for autorestarts, and FTP to allow access to files.

While a cool flashy gamepanel is nice. I does not take one to host games. Most of the larger GSPs have been around since before control panels came out, and learned how to host the games right on the server. It is a great learning experience, and also prepares you for the problems that you will face with each game, therefore allowing you to better support your clients when they start asking questions and having problems.

If you learn the game inside and out by trial and error, you become much better at supporting your clients when they have a problem.
Also, google and/or any other search engine is your friend. 95% of all game related questions have already been asked and answered somewhere before.

Actually I don't host a game servers at all. TCAdmin generally requires you to know the game before you host. Cortex is fine for clannies however for GSP it's an extremely stupid idea. We weren't talking individual clans, we were talking GSPs.
DougK94
I agree that Cortex is very good for a clan that has a dedicated server. TCAdmin will also work for that AND it is designed for a GSP who knows how to setup and run game servers, unlike Cortex.

If you have a dedicated box with Cortex on it, you have to wait on TP to add a mod, patch or new game. If you have a dedicated box with TCAdmin, or many other game control panels, you only have to wait on yourself to add in a patch or new game. Also with Cortex you must have all of your servers at TP, with TCAdmin or most other game control panels, you are not tied to a specific datacenter.

As a GSP, I would not and could not be dependent on a single datacenter and someone else to decide what games I can host and also when.
