Full Version: YUM on RHEL5 not working

Hi don't know where to post this so I'll try here. I have a brand new server with theplanet, on RHEL5. The problem is simple - I cannot use yum to update OS. It says that RHN is not available. What must I do in order for yum to work on the machine. I had an old Fedora based box for years so yum and RHEL5 is quite new for me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thx

Open a ticket and our technical support should be able to assist with getting it registered and working.

I have a similar situation where yum is not working; I suspect that the previous administrator was monkeying around with the yum repository configuration, and from other examples of his "fine work", I'm more than a little convinced he wasn't entirely sure of what he was doing. Should I also open a trouble ticket, or can you simply post a copy of the default yum.repo.d config file?

Thanks,
Raymond

It's up to you. If you post the config file, it might help people with the same problem in the future. smile.gif

Just open a ticket letting the technicians know yum is not working, and paste the error. They should know what to do.

Well, that's part of the problem, I don't have a RHEL 5 yum repository configuration file. I have the feeling that if I did, or at least a back up of one or more of the original repo files I might have solved the problem by now. ;-)

Oh. Been trying to fix this for 5 hours and then this =) OK, let's wait for the ticket resolution =))

Edit: And after another 5-6 hours it started to work itself - weird.
