Is Call of Duty 4 going to be hosted by The Planet?

I need to know ASAP so we can make preparations.
grimgrinch
Thanks for asking that question as I also need to know. Anyone else?

Unfortunately, I think we all know the answer to this. More and more it seems TP is moving towards eliminating its GSP product line through customer churn.

Since Kevin's departure, Cortex support is now almost non-existent. Anyone with a ranked BF2xx server is basically screwed when it comes to adding the new demos/betas/games/you-name-it.
TP
I must ask and agree also.
With Kevin and Logan gone this leaves one person left.

If they are going to roll out Cortex v2.0 they need to do it fast.

COD4, ET:QW, MOH:A and Crysis are all due out by years end, and some in less then 20 days !

Cortex needs to get us, the customers, some answers ASAP on the state of the company and if and when they will support these games.

Cortex needs to have these games day one or what would be the reason to have Cortex??
lkonig
Ah this could be a bad thing gang. no replies I have had issue dealing with the game server side of ThePlanet.

Could CORTEX be short lived? I hope not my clients love it.
EaglezEye
I had plenty of issues lately with our Point Of Exisistence 2 (POE2) server and Battlefield2142 unranked pro-mod servers. Zach did his best to fix them but it took nearly 1 1/2 months to get the POE2 running correctly. I believe he might be alone in the support section for cortex in this company and you can't run a buisness that way.

I will try giving TP a call today and get an official word about a COD4 server. Our team will be moving to this game and I don't want to keep paying $249 a month in the hopes they will host it. If they don't have on the list by now it will not be out for the release is my thinking.
Triton
I had a thought about this subject.

What if several of us went together and put all our ranked instance on one shared box and the we could use the money we save to go toward our own unranked boxes and then run these new games separate from Cortex.

I know this may take some work to set up but could be possible. I for one can't afford to give up my ranked instance but all my match server could go on the unranked along with these new games and this would free up space for someone else to put a ranked instance on this box.
Just an Idea.

I am not looking to make anything off of it but we could but 3 or 4 ranked instance up and then split the cost of the box based on the size of each instance.

We will be dropping battlefield2142 all together. We will be dropping our team from the TWL ladders and will finish up the league. I am hoping to find a provider that will host COD4 and then buy a box from them.

If the Planet will accomodate the new game then that would be fine. If not it is time to move on.
TP
We will offer COD4, but some of the old customers we have love Cortex.
I hate to give that up.
If you need COD4, drop me a line

Agree.. We need an update on what's going on with COD4! This is going to be the next shooter to replace Battlefield on the PC and I sure hope it's planned to be integrated into cortex.

The rumor mill is out about COD4 being ranked. Not sure if it is the console, PC or both.
grimgrinch
My understanding is that the PC version will have both ranked and unranked servers. I personally don't like ranked servers and prefer a level playing field. In round rank ups are OK in my book.

Do you mind passing on where you learned that?

This has definatly peaked my interest because I cannot stand having no access to my box.

Lets hope COD4 Ranked requirements don't mean no root access.

Creed, that is assuming that it makes it into Cortex.

Well we can at least hope. I am currently running COD1 and COD2 servers so I am sure there will be interest in this when it comes out.

It is a shame they skipped the PC for COD3. Did you ever try that game on the console?

No, I never had the opportunity to try it on concole. I thought it was very strange to skip PC as a platform. Are they going to skip console this time around...?
doc
Doubtful. Unfortunately consoles are the prime gaming market for game developers and PC gaming is slowly dwindling due to a number of reasons.

Are you positive that TP will be hosting COD4? Will TP be hosting ranked COD4 servers? Will I have the same problems that with running a ranked and unranked server on the same box like I had with BF2? I just dropped our woodcrest box and have no idea what box we would need to run two COD4 servers or if I would want to take a chance on the technical support and box capabilities again.

Agreed! I would much rather play FPS games on a computer anyday but COD4 beta went to XBOX360 instead of the PC. I found that interesting for us PC guys being we are basing our entire future for our clan on this new game.

But, as console gaming becomes popular, the problems that plague PCs will creep over to console gaming. As people want to upgrade their consoles the addition of new equipment/drivers will harm console games like they do in the PC. Also if console gaming takes over, piracy is inevitably going to be a larger issue for console game developers.

Then lets hope for your clan's sake that we will be seeing COD4 on Cortex in the future.

Does any one have some reading material/links about COD4 and this ranking tidbit. I would like to do some research and present to our clan so they get an idea of what is really coming.

Gameriot: Another big issue many people have with CoD4 multiplayer is talk about earning experience. Can you please explain how this experience will work in online play and if and how it will affect competitive play?

Robert: Experience Points plays an essential role to the stock experience of what Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare multiplayer is, especially on the console, but on the PC it plays a bit differently. However, you’re more than welcomed to play the stock version of multiplayer in Ranked servers and level up your rank through gaining experience, but players who don’t want to rank up or who play competitively and need an even playing field for tourneys and matches will have the option to play unranked and essentially set it up as they need.

So, at this point, we're left in the dark about informing our current customers and new customers that "Hey, we don't know if we're offering COD4"
So start looking somewhere else to do business with!!

It is SAD the TP cannot even post another on this thread if CORTEX will support COD4.

My company will be looking for a new control panel for sure if nothing comes from TP soon.

lkonig,

As I have been telling others in other posts here, if you have not already done so, please go into Orbit and open a ticket with the request to add COD4 to Cortex. Your request will then be forwarded to Cortex Development for proper queueing and handling of your request to add this game.

I know and definitely understand that this may be different from times past. But as Bigdog and few others pointed out, Zach/Cortex DEV is so busy, as you can tell from their lack of posting here, that if you post your request here it never gets reviewed/heard by the correct people/area. So, in order to make sure that we are capturing those requests in a timely manner and getting it to the right people to have their eyes on it, its safer to open a ticket and insure that your request gets captured and responded to by the right people than it sit here in the forums unresponded to or responded to by someone like me who is far removed from the actual work that needs to be done and priorities that need to be set to get a game engine installed. As I stated in the other thread, it does you, our customer, no justice, and of course increases the frustration level because there are not responses posted that helps anyone.

I wish we did not have to do this and that we still had Kevin and all the others around that we used to have. But this is a different time and we are trying to support our Gaming/Cortex Community as best we can today.

I hope you understand and should you have a ticket that is open/pending with no response for a longer than normal period of time, please feel free to post here or PM me and let me know and I'll check into things for you.

Kind regards,

I opened a ticket to have this added. Not sure how that works as we have not had to do that in the past.

Tickets open none the less.

Thanks for the post..

I really hope they can get this game into cortex by November 6th. We are very excited for this games release and not having it available on the release day wouldn't be fun icon_eek.gif
