Full Version: Brainstorming TF2 hosting, non ranked, non Cortex

[HLA]SpongeBob
Hi Folks,
Need some, any, help in getting TF2 up and running. This is my first time hosting any Steampowered game, never did it via Cortex and don't really plan on it now, especially since no at The Planet seems to have taken over the controls of Cortex from Kevin in the 3 months he's been gone.
Never the less, I ran the HLDSupdate tool, took all night, but the server files are now "up to date" or so it says, I kicked off the script (this is all consolde based, command prompt, I don't want to use the Steam GUI)
I think the server is running, but as I'm not at home and can't start up the game, I don't know for sure. I have a command prompt window up, it's showing me an FPS count that seems to be hovering between 250 and 260 fps. I think that's good, but I do have an error:

Particles: Missing 'particles/error.pcf'

then I get

Maxplayers set to 24

then ip and port info.

Is that all it takes? Oddly, I don't have a server.cfg file anywhere in the server install directory (ies) that has me worried.

Anyone else try this...yet?

Thanks!
ECF
The error messages is pretty standard on all Source based games, especially new ones. The best way to check if your server is up is to go to http://www.game-monitor.com and type in your IP and do a search.

This willl tell you whether the game is running or not. Also, you should have a server.cfg file setup, but the game does not need one to simply start.
