Greetings

I recently purchased a SSL certificate for my domain www.xxx.com I have created a subdomain, for www.subdomain.xxx.com, which needs to be secure, and I would like to know is the SSL certificate valid for the subdomain as well. If not, is there a way to protect the subdomain, or would I have to purchase another SSL certificate?

unless you got a wild card SSL cert (you would know, they are expensive) you will need to get another ssl cert for the subdomain. Also note, the subdomain will need its own IP as well, your best bet would be to add it as its own account.

If you purchase the wild card certificate then it will be valid for the whole domain including all the subdomains and subfolders under that domain. The cost of the wild card is too heavy. You can buy a ssl certificate for your subdomain only but as said before you need to have the dedicated IP assigned to your subdomain.
