Having access to my server on via cortex is okay, but very very limiting. Yes, I run ranked 2142 servers, and I know that is just how it needs to be. But there are many games I would to test out, but can't ,because I don't have direct access to the server. but maybe I have a solution, if it can be done...

Option 1: Most of us have 2 hard drives. why not make it so the ranked server can ONLY install on 1 hard drive, then give us remote desktop or logmein access to the 2nd hard drive. that way we can upload, install and run what's needed.

Option 2: Let us create directories where we can upload the game server files. most of the server settings are in some sort of text file, and if we have access to that folder, we could easily modify the file. and then have some sort of way to start the the exe file, via cortex, different that what we are us to now. ie. click the file to run, etc.

i know it can be done, just need someone to get the code icon_wink.gif

what do you think biggrin.gif

1: Can't be done. To login locally via Terminal Services, you must have Admin access to the box which would allow you break into those files.

2: You could upload FTP program and download EA ranked files or upload an EXE that resets local Admin user or create a second one.

You picked Ranked, your limited to what you can do. That's them cookies.

well, your ruined my day. i hope you find something nice and smelly on your shoes icon_wink.gif haha just messing.

oh well, I thought I'd ask. It just blows not having more access...

Options were looked into to give some sort of access, but FTP access is where the line was drawn. As far as I know not all ranked providers are even able to provide FTP access, but I could be wrong in that. In the far future options may be reconsidered and there may be a way that can be worked out, but that is a slim chance for far in the future.

Can't you just sandbox the ranked server's directory?

Several ways of doing that were investigated, and always a method to break the protection was found. I don't want to release something that will potentially be broken into and violate the terms we have with EA and have everyone lose their ranking status.

In the far future I may personally revisit the idea, but I first want to start releasing updated features and new additions to Cortex itself leading to version 2. Maybe a feature like this will find it's way in to that version

How about doing something with VMWare server and setting up a virtual server that we could monkey with unrestricted? Our box definately has the CPU performance for that.

I doubt this will ever be, as there have been several people researching how to break out of VMware environments. Have they been successful? I don't know. But it is only a matter of time.
