If you have remote desktop1) Download server files from one of these mirrors ->
http://www.insmod.net/downloads2) Install the Half-Life 2 engine via Cortex
3) Create a HL2 instance via Cortex
4) Extract Insurgency folder into the main hl2 folder. Should look something like this

5) Add the following to the command line via Cortex's edit config
-game insurgency +map ins_haditha +maxplayers 32 +fps_max 500 -tickrate 66
The mod dev recommended a tickrate of 66 so that is why it is in the command line.
6) Setup the server via the server config -> \Insurgency\cfg\server.cfg
Map cycle -> \Insurgency\mapcycle.txt
7) Hit start
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you do not have remote desktop1) Download the server files to your home pc.
2) Install the Half-Life 2 engine via Cortex
3) Create a HL2 instance via Cortex
4) Upload the Insurgency mod zip to the main hl2 folder via ftp.
5) Go into Cortex -> Instances -> Browse Files and unzip/unrar the file. This should drop the Insurgency folder into the main hl2 folder.
6) Add the following to the command line via Cortex's edit config
-game insurgency +map ins_haditha +maxplayers 32 +fps_max 500 -tickrate 66
The mod dev recommended a tickrate of 66 so that is why it is in the command line.
7) Setup the server via the server config -> \Insurgency\cfg\server.cfg
Map cycle -> \Insurgency\mapcycle.txt
8 ) Hit start
The only negative I have found is the player count. I can not get Cortex to set the slots greater than 16. If anyone knows a trick let me know. I tried adding it to the command line and custom config data with no luck.

Do you know if the mod has a player limit? 32? 64?
They recommend 16-24 with a max of 32.
FYI - at the end of the first map the server hung up. Did not crash, just locked up and cleaned the server out. Went to their forums and this is a known issue. Just wanted to give a heads up.
This mod is buggy as hell. Found another issue the hard way. I get stuck on the loading screen trying to join a server. Went to the forums and this is a known issue.
Another well known issue is getting stuck inside of another player.

Bugs!
It was fun what little time I could play. Now I am getting connection errors when I try to join a server. May just have to hang it up until a more stable release is sent out.

You can connect to my server, but it gives error messages that say "invalid IMC" and there's red blinking error messages everywhere?

I saw a picture of that in their forums of that and was laughing my ass off. I am guessing by the following screenshot there is an error. LMAO!!!!!

Install on a counter stike instance and you can run more than 16 slots.
BEWARE you need to upload the script and reasorces folder, cortex doesn't unzip them for some reason. Doing through FTP was easier.
Server is up and running fine... 24/24 since I started it. This thing is FULL of bugs.. Man 3 CTD...

that's because you installed it in a HL2DM instance. HL2DM is limite to 16 player max in cortex.
instead, you should install it as a CS or DoD instance, and do the same things you described.
Ours is/was up, but the mod is considerably unstable. It crashes for no apparent reason....map changes, player connections, fire fights, calm periods, hackers, ....who knows. but it's crashing. Browsing the top 20 or so gamemonitor ranked servers.......everyone is crashing hourly, if not more often.
Would be nice if this plugin could be integrated into cortex, like natural selection and other HL mods.......
thoughts?

Cortex doesn't seem to restart insurgency on it's own (running as a CS Source instance). It says it's up, but the rcon and status buttons are greyed out. Is there a script or something I can use so it restarts properly on its own without me manually having to do it??
That is because the server did not crash, just got stuck in a loop and is locked up. All Cortex does is see if the game server is running, if it crashes it will see that and restart. This game is just locking up and not crashing.

I see. Others seem to restart right away, but they're probably running that server monitor program. Oh well....

Yep.. For us ranked server owners running BF2/2142 all we can do is keep an eye on it. Or just limit it to one map. Its crashing on map loads.

I installed Bettles mod, with server crash exlpoit fix, set mp_timelimit 45/ins_roundtimer 45 and I took out, what I consider to be the buggy maps. These three are all I have in the map cycle: ins_sinjar, ins_almaden, ins_haditha. The servers been running about 6 hours now without a crash. Maybe it will still be up in the morning...
I set mine to a lot of rounds/map so prevent map changes. Hopefully that will keep it up until the patch.

Patch released this morning, seemed to have fixed some of the server issues. Haven't had much time to test, but it doesn't seem to hang on map change anymore.
Good news, thanks for the heads up.

Not sure about FTP. Maybe delete the files that would be overwritten, upload the zip and then extract.

Good news Rude. There was some complaints about the 1.1 patch not rotating maps so I guess they got that fixed with the hot fix. I can't get my server to recognize the time limit. It is just defaulting to 12 minutes.

Did you try this: mp_timelimit 20, ins_roundtimer 20? I have them both in the cfg, but it works (not sure which one is actually doing it though, lol) I also have my ins_maxrounds set to 0. Stiil no crashing and it changes at 20 mins.
I'll post my config, but dont laugh..It's kind of just thrown together...

I can not get this mod installed.
runing a ranked server
i have the file unziped and looks correct.
only think is the resource and scripts folders are missing
cortex wont let me create the folder resource or scripts
tried ftp the folders and i get this error
Response: 550 resource: Permission denied.
Command: MKD /instances/101st_css_insur/Insurgency/resource/
Response: 550 /instances/101st_css_insur/Insurgency/resource: Permission denied.
This has always worked for me in getting around Cortex limitations like that. Create or upload resources1 and scripts1. After they are on the server rename them to resource and scripts. That is how I updated my teamspeak instances without using Cortex.

Mine has been full and hasn't crashed since I installed the hot fix about 9 or 10 hrs ago. It freezes for a second or so every now and then like it's going too, but I hasn't yet. I've gotten to actually play the game and enjoy it this evening. Really, impressed so far with game play.
I was losing faith in the mod when they released the 1.1 patch but the hot fix has restored it. Since the servers are more stable, I am contemplating offering them at my Dallas and Chicago locations.
