Full Version: cPanel - provisioning and support

As of 06/07/2007, The Planet's provisioning systems will be installing the STABLE version tree. This ensures that when you order a cPanel system, it will be a version that cPanel officially supports as a production-level installation as well as providing you with the best possible experience off of the line.

For those of you who would like to utilize the RELEASE version tree, you can run the following command as root:
CODE
echo "CPANEL=release" > /etc/cpupdate.conf && /scripts/upcp

There have been some changes to The Planet's support policy regarding cPanel and cPanel's branching system as well. As of 06/07/2007, only STABLE and RELEASE are officially supported. If you are currently running CURRENT or EDGE, we suggest that you post your issue here in the forums or in http://forums.cpanel.net/ so that the cPanel user community can assist you.

The main reason for this change is due to the release cycle that cPanel uses to make major releases. With cPanel 11 scheduled for release on July 10, 2007, there have been a number of support requests for users on CURRENT and EDGE, which is a non-production level branch (according to cPanel), dealing with bugs that have been encountered and should have been reported to bugzilla.cpanel.net instead of a support ticket. We will continue to offer full support for the current production quality releases (STABLE and RELEASE) from cPanel to secure the quality of customer care we provide you.

For more information about cPanel 11, you can view the Features, Datasheet and Release Notes on cPanel's website. cPanel's Change Log is available at http://changelog.cpanel.net/

Dear cPanel Partner,

Since the release of cPanel 11, we have noticed a number of instances where the cPanel 11 release update failed to complete. The symptoms can vary, including blank pages being drawn from certain features, with the most commonly reported issue being that account creations are exiting prematurely, claiming immediately that the account creation is complete.
Additionally, account creation, suspension, unsuspension and removal may fail.

This is occurring because /scripts/updatenow was executed (or run from update system software in whm) without a subsequent call to upcp. As a result, /scripts is updated to the latest available modules available with cPanel 11, while the rest of the system remains configured for the older builds.

You can confirm whether or not this is the case on your system by executing from the command line:
perl -c /scripts/wwwacct

If this command returns errors, then you will need to update. Here is what you can expect to see if a problem exists:
root@localhost [~]# perl -c /scripts/wwwacct Can't locate Whostmgr/Accounts/Create.pm in @INC (@INC contains:
/usr/local/cpanel /scripts /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.7/i686-linux
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.7 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.7/i686-linux
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.7 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.4 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.3
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.2 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.1 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.0 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl .) at /scripts/wwwacct line 10.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /scripts/wwwacct line 10.
root@localhost [~]#

Suggested Fixes:

If you wish to stay with cPanel 10.x, you will need to execute the following commands from the command line:

/usr/local/cpanel/bin/checkperlmodules
echo "CPANEL=stable" >> /etc/cpupdate.conf /scripts/upcp --force

If you would like to continue with the cPanel 11 updates (recommended), you will need to execute the following commands from the command line:

/usr/local/cpanel/bin/checkperlmodules
/scripts/upcp -force

We have also recently released a new installer (for fresh installs only) that solves many of the cPanel 11 installation problems that have been recently reported.

You can download the installer at: http://layer2.cpanel.net

Later tonight we will also release a new 10.9 STABLE build that will handle downgrades from cPanel 11.x more gracefully.

Please note:

cPanel has revised their launch dates. cPanel 11 Stable is slated for launch on July 31st.
AaronC
cPanel 11 Stable - stage 1, has been listed on cPanel's website with a release date of July 23rd.

Until recently, there was no Stage 1 stable, only Stage 2, which is still scheduled for July 31st.

Notes on Stage 1 vs. Stage 2:

Release Schedule
Due to the massive amount of changes to the cPanel and WHM code base, cPanel will be releasing this upgrade in multiple stages. The first stages will contain the majority of the new features and code, including the new domain owner interface. This first stage is currently available in the CURRENT branch and can be downloaded by running /scripts/upcp on the CLI or 'Upgrade to Latest Version' in WHM. The later updates will be smaller and more focused, including such features as Apache 2.0.x and 2.2.x support.
