Full Version: Upgrade to Plesk 8.1 from 7.5.4 reloaded
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > Plesk
Xaos Master
There appear to be a lot of failed upgrades to Plesk v8.1 using the auto-upgrade facility, especially on servers running FedoraCore OS versions.

Is there any difference between MySQL engines (e.g. 4 --> 5) and if so is there any utility which allows a 7.5.4 database to be upgraded/updated to Plesk version 8.1 format, as there seems to be some changes/differences here.

If one is not willing to use the auto-updater, what other options are available in terms of manual upgrades.

We run a FC2 server with Plesk 7.5.4 and would like to move to FC4 and 8.1

Problem is that we have only a single server & we wish to minimise any downtime on our clients.

We have already 1 failed attempt which had all the symptoms as described by many users - e.g. qmail not working and web-sites inaccessible etc.

A forced 7.5.4 re-install has left us with a broken Plesk e.g. many 8.1 files remaining on the server and functionality not working e.g. can't create new domains and can't install new SSL certificates!!!

SWsoft support is inadequate to say the least!

Any feedback/advice would be appreciated - thank-you

I would recommend you get a new server and move over if your looking to upgrade from FC2 to FC4.
This will also minimize downtime to almost nothing if done properly.

I have upgraded Plesk from 7.5.4 to 8.1.1 on my RHEL3 box (see sig) and it did initially break some stuff, though I was able to repair it.
