Full Version: Jerky CS:S servers

We just bought a Xeon 5130 with 2 GB of RAM. Right now it is hosting a 15 man 66 tick public gungame server, a 11 man 100 tick private server, a 20 man 66 tick public, and a 10 slot 66 tick public. The 66 tick servers work perfect with no slowdowns. Even with nobody in the 66 tick publics, our 100 tickrate private runs weird. When people are moving they are jerky. They're not teleporting or lagging, they just look really jerky like they're shaking alot. I can't seem to figure out why. Our other box is a Pentium D 3.40 Ghz dual core and it runs servers fine. This box is way more powerful and it seems to be kind of jerky. The CPU usage is not anywhere near 35% with all the server full either. My rates on the server are:
sv_mincmdrate 60
sv_maxcmdrate 100
sv_minrate 20000
sv_maxrate 30000
sv_minupdaterate 60
sv_maxupdaterate 100
fps_max 500
Anyone have any ideas?

Put a ticket in and ask for Zach to look at it, we run a surf mod and were have some problems, he has taken a lot of time fixing it for us.

.....since when do you needlessly spam?

Your rates look fine at first glance.

What do you have the following set at:

sv_client_predict
sv_client_interpolate
sv_client_interp
sv_client_cmdrate_difference
sv_timeout
doc
Creed, my post was in reply to Budo's post. I was trying to say ditto to his remarks.

sv_client_predict
sv_client_interpolate
sv_client_interp
sv_client_cmdrate_difference
sv_timeout

Those rates are exactly the same as our Pentium D box which runs flawlessly:
sv_client_predict: -1
sv_client_interpolate: -1
sv_client_interp: -1
sv_timeout: 65
sv_client_cmdrate_difference: 20

We honestly think it's the Houston datacenter. Our Pentium D is in Dallas and it's running flawlessly and has been for the last few months. We have nothing but trouble with this box in Houston. All the way from terrible customer support to networking issues. I'm getting really upset over this because it's just getting ridiculous.

Makes sense now. Thanks!

Kenny: I have heard a lot of problem with gaming and the Houston DC. Though to prove it you will need to do some extensive testing.

Do you all have much faith in pingboosting?
KennyM
Ok, I really hate the Houston datacenter. At random times the pings on our box will go over 300 for about 10 minutes. I do a traceroute to our box and it's gs-9 or ge-9.ev1servers.blahblah causing the problems. Our Dallas server has never had a problem. Theplanet refuses to move our box even with that proof. I'm really frustrated. For a game server company, pings are very important. This is not cool.

I was not kidding, Start a new ticket and ask for Zach!! At the very least Zach will look at it, and let you know whats the problem. If he can't fix it, its not because he does not want too its cause it can't be done.

Hate to drag up old stuff, but did anyone at TP ever figure out what the issue was in Houston as the forums were LOADED with gaming issues in that datacenter and requests for transfers were everywhere.

I would also ask was the issue the datacenter or the user's server?

I would have ignored an isolated incident as user error, but you remember as well as I Doc, the flood of issues that were posted about the Houston center for GAMERS, most resulted in Kevin having them put tickets in for transfers, or cancels and re order specifying Dallas.

You run game servers , which datacenter are yours in? icon_wink.gif
doc
I have always used Dallas and prefer to stay with what has worked for me in the past. Since I am renting game servers out to clients, I would hate to experiment with a data center I am not very familiar with and have my clients suffer.

What games are you running currently Gorrdy?

My server is located in The Houston center and I have only had had one problme with pings , After contacting tech support the problem was solved very quickly.

only other problem was my server's power supply died which was replaced with in 45 mins of the server shutting down.
doc
I had a power supply go out on me at a data center in Chicago so it happens to everyone. Not common but it does happen. Luckily I have not lost a HDD yet on any of my servers.
