Full Version: HELP: qmail / sendmail won't send from web server all of a sudden!

I started having complaints that customers were not getting online store orders, contact us forms, and other email-from-website issues. Checking installations of TFmail scripts (common form emailer perl scripts) they are throwing an obscure error ( http://cguweb.com/contact_us.htm - just click the submit button to see error ).

It be simple to say its a script error, but its not, because I created a simple one line php script to send myself an email - it runs without error in a browser, but I never get the email (same server, it should be isntant). If I ssh into my server and php command line run the same one-liner, I get the email no problem.

the ONLY thing I can think of is I continually keep plesk and packages uptodate, and have surely done some updates in the same timeframe that this occurred. Trouble is, Plesk provides no (obvious) way of rolling back updates. Do they?? And is qmail updated via plesk updates?

theplanet support isn't much help - they claim its a script thing, so its my problem. But being their WRONG, doesn't that double the problem for them??

So I turn to the community, as valuable a place it is to get answers - hopefully someone has had this issue and resolved it.

Or if anyone's curiousity is peaked into helping a fellow webitzen, give me a shout! ( webmaster@cguweb.com )

thanks all!

I see many views, but no responses... guess its not a common problem, and I have no idea how it happened *must've been a plesk update*, but all it took after days on confusion was to reinstall the qmail rpm

everything works as expected now. Permission on either a binary or queue directory was set incorrectly - I found this out from my server log files. The reinstall apparently reset permissions *use --force*

so there ya go - if you have the same problem, that's the solution!

Just a quick note...

If you're running qmHandle, qmail-remove or similar to clean up the mail queue you'll want to make sure to stop qmail first. It will cause the same type of issue if it bungles the queue.
