Red Hat Enterprise 4. But ye be warned: Whatever distribution you choose for cPanel, it will be difficult if you do not have Linux experience.

CentOS or RHEL with proper security implemented and regular security upgrade should be fine. But freebsd little more secure than Linux, then cpanel is not much stable for FreeBSD and there is huge community support for Linux than FreeBSD

Hello,

SEURITY , EASY , CPANEL
CentOS is better for thats?
klaude
CentOS is better for the 'easy' and 'cpanel' parts, but typically FreeBSD is a bit more secure out of the box. If you're using cPanel then you'll have a much better time with CentOS or RHEL.

If you are going to go with cPanel, go with linux. There will be a lot more people who can help you when you run into issues. Any oddities on BSD, you will need to research, as it is not nearly as common as the Linux+cPanel combination.

Security issues will come and go no matter what OS you run. The _majority_ of them are caused by an exploitable script, not the OS itself.

Another consideration is what you are familiar with. If you are not going to be hiring anybody to take care of the servers go with what you are familiar with. If you have some experience admining windows servers (not desktops!) then you would be better off going that way. If you have no experience either way linux is a great choice.

Hello,

Thanks for your answers
with it
so I think "Cent OS" is better for me!

Please explain more about "Cent OS"
Thanks

Good bye

CentOS is a Linux distribution that is built off of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux source RPMs. Essentially it's a free clone of the RHEL distro. Many use it in cases where they want the benefits of RHEL, but don't want to pay for it. It's fine to use here because it'll still work just fine and you can get support from us and the forum users. icon_smile.gif

Hi,

now that CentOS 5 has been released, when will it be an option for ThePlanet servers? TP currently only offers CentOS 4 with new servers without additional monthly fees.

Centos icon_smile.gif but if you get free License from the planet, i would good with RHEL

hope that helps
