Full Version: How do I register new domain?

I used to be with EV1 and now they've changed to the planet and bla bla bla... I'm not a reseller or anything, I just want to register a single domain, but nobody seems to give a shit.

My impression is that it's not a high priority for them because in order to set a competitive price, the profit is incredibly low per domain so if you're only registering a single domain and they have to do work to help you do it, they're losing money.

If you have access to orbit you can register domains for $9.99 I think. (I'm not sure though if you only have servercommand access what the procedure is, other than emailing domains@)

Better yet, if you have dozens of domains, a ResellOne account has worked very well for me. Their profit per domain is only $0.25 or something along those lines, but multiply it by 200,000 as long as things run relatively smoothly and it works out well for everyone.

Otherwise, just register it at a cheap register like godaddy, joker, 1&1 (if you want to be really cheap @5.99, but it's not instant), etc. - you have to sit through some ads, but for a single domain purchase they all have online control panels.

You can still register a domain through us. If you have an Orbit account you can do so online. If not, e-mail domains@theplanet.com and ask to register a domain manually. Be sure to let them know you're a legacy EV1Servers customer. I'm not certain what the price is currently, but I don't think it's as high as $9.99. It's either $6.49 or $6.99.

Also ... Jeff is right about ResellOne. You may not be a reseller, but if you plan to register, transfer or renew more than 20 or so domains this year (or if you'll be needing a QuickSSL certificate or two) it makes sense to have a ResellOne account. There's a lot more functionality there.
