Friend of mine works with an organization (50 users), they do not have Exchange server right now.

Right now they use virtual email accounts (not for all users) provided by telecommunication ISP.

They have their own domain, and I am not sure if they Active Directory or not

If they want to configure one of their stand alone server (windows 2003) as mail server, similar to link below
http://www.ilopia.com/Articles/WindowsServ...mailServer.aspx

How many user accounts we can create with that stand alone box ? Is the stand alone box sufficient for 50 users accounts ?

Through my Google search I found only the link above with figures |(very useful) shows how to configure that ,,,is there any extra URL resources ?

Yes I am aware that there is alternate solutions, for instance this :

If you said 5,000 accounts I'd be asking about server specs, etc. For 50, the server won't even notice they're there! The limiting factor is really available bandwidth (and anti-spam/virus software if you have that running which does eat up the cpu somewhat).

50 users are a joke however the built in Mail server is really weak meaning you can't add additional features. I would recommend using a different mail server however.

Hmailserver is a good free server that should be able to do all the basic features you want it to do.

However, If your willing to pay for a mail server, you cannot go wrong with Merak Mail server heavy lifting power.

Also, I'll mention SmarterMail in here as many people like it, it's cheaper then Merak in many cases and Enterprise version comes with some additional tools.

Email is my forte on Windows. I've used all 3. Merak is what powers my domain.

In any case, I recommend you get IMAP support.

Thanks rabbit994 for this insight

Here I did not ge exactly, what you meant, Wouldn't all mail server utilities come with IMAP support ?

Negative, the built in Windows 2003 Mail server DOES NOT include IMAP support only POP3. Only Exchange does (they obviously want you to buy exchange)

You are aware of difference between POP3 and IMAP and why I would seriously recommend any business limit their email to IMAPv4 only? (If not, I'll explain it but I'm trying to save myself some typing)

Hi I guess you may help me

I am fetching mail from a mail server located in the head office using internet. Mails are getting downloaded.

Now I want to forward this downloaded mails to exchange server 2003(used for SMTP), located in LAN.

I tried with the following configuration in .fetchmailrc

set daemon 300
poll 123.23.13.12
with protocol pop3 smtphost -S 192.168.0.55
username abc password ##### smtpname abc@mydom.com is xyz
username rai password ##### smtpname rai@mydom.com is xyz
username ram password ##### smtpname ram@mydom.com is xyz

Any other addition to this configuration or initial setup? I am a newbie to Linux

Please help me out.

I started default POP3 server in exchange server 2003, so that it can receive mails from Linux server

Note: ip address 123.23.13.12 is just an example

Since I don't use Linux or fetchmail, I'm unable to help you. I'm also confused about your network design. I recommend POPCon for downloading and retrieving mail from remote POP3 and IMAP servers.
