What this means is that the following systems will no longer be able to receive updates and security patches:
- RH 7.x
- RH 8.x
- RH 9.x
- Fedora Core 1
- Fedora Core 2
- Fedora Core 3
The Planet understands the need for security patches and updates to your operating system (one core reason behind this server) and will be leaving the repository on-line until June 30th, 2007. We are leaving the repository on-line for this extended amount of time to allow you to upgrade your server to the latest maintained version of Fedora[1]. I would suggest CentOS[2] but I haven't found any good upgrade guides (not even sure if there is a path). In the event that you would no longer like to run Fedora, you can always visit your appropriate members section and order an OS-Reload.
Please remember that this mirror is offered purely as a courtesy to you as we know how slow public mirrors can often be. We provide this so you won't have the experience the pains of upgrading from public mirrors (which can be quite slow at times and has a tendency to timeout and break upgrades). If the upgrade fails at some point and you can't recover the system, please order an OS-Reload and restore from back-up. Technical Support will be unable to assist you if an upgrade fails, however Server support (DC personal) will still be able to be remote hands if need be.
Please! Don't forget to make an off-site back-up! If you don't have a back-up solution, please visit your appropriate members section and order a backup solution from us. Data is too valuable to risk losing, in my opinion.
How-to's
Remember, any link to 'download.fedoralegacy.com' or the like can be replaced with yum.ev1servers.net/FEDORALEGACY for a much faster mirror. Don't forget to use
- Upgrading from RH 7.3 to RH 9.0
- General 7.3 -> FC 1 upgrade path
- Detailed howto for RH * to FC (and beyond)
