Full Version: after server reload, disksync agent fails to connect to server

After having my server restored yesterday, today I find that disksync agent console fails to connect to my server.
When I click on my hostname I get "failed to connect to myIP"
Tried taking down my firewall and reentering the password as a test.
Won't connect. Any ideas?
Jeff
What software exactly is (supposed to be) installed on a RHE linux server to make disksync work?

Is the agent that is supposed to be loaded on the server an RPM or where is it located or named?

If a server is setup with disksync and has to be restored due to failed hardware, is the customer supposed to reinstall the disksync agent software following the restore?

I'm still getting used to DiskSync but I'm sure the agent has to be reinstalled and I believe we're going to have to install it for you.

for a synopsis of what to do for a restore and a recommended PDF from Justin who manages DiskSync/Backups.

Greetings,

DiskSync is customer-installed, customer-configured, customer-managed and customer-monitored.

You will need to download the installer that William references in the second URL above, and install it before you can connect to DiskSync on your server.

Once DiskSync Agent is installed on your server, you will need to "Re-register as an already registered computer" when registering the Vault connection. This will restore all your task, schedule and other Agent-side configurations. When this is completed you will need to execute a Synchronize job on your Task(s), after which you may restore your data from the service.

If you experience problems, feel free to open a ticket.

Wow, for quite a complex backup solution, an awful lot is left to the customer to sort out! There are plenty of people who got their heads around the vault and backup schema employed by DiskSync - I am not one of them. I never could work out how to make the most of it and while I accept it is the all-singing, all-dancing backup system, I prefer NAS (for all its sins). I can copy stuff back and forth all day long and a quick session in Windows Explorer shows me exactly what is and isn't backed up.

I guess I'm just an old fashioned sort of a guy icon_mrgreen.gif

cprompt,

That is not to say we won't help. I'm just saying that it's up to the customer to do it themselves, or to put in the ticket requesting that it be done. It won't be done automatically.

If it's any consolation, I use NAS extensively myself, but I love DiskSync nonetheless. icon_wink.gif

Ah, ok. In fairness, I've opened a fair few tickets wrt DiskSync and the techs have all been very helpful. I thought this was some policy shift, that's all.

I also prefer the NAS for its simplicity, but I have no problem with having to install the disksync software -- just was not sure as when I first got setup with disksync the planet installed the agent software on my server.
