For those of you who are unsure if they should invest in this back up system, I have just done it with a 10gig account. I too was unsure, so I trust you dont mind me letting you know what happened from my perspective.
I must add that I am technically challenged compared to most readers in this forum.
After setting up the account thru server command and getting back the logins and a link to downloads and doc at http://downloads.theplanet.com/disksync
Firstly I downloaded AgentConsole.exe and installed on my laptop - no prob
I then download the file Agent-Linux-5.60.2178.tar.gz and uploaded to a temp directory on my server.
I downloaded the file Agent_UNIX.pdf which describes how to install it on my server
Following the instructions in Para 5.1.2.2
I receive the following
root@host [/temp]# tar -xvPf Agent-Linux-5.60.2178.tar.gz
tar: This does not look like a tar archive
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
root@host [/temp]#
But doing this did work for me
tar -xvf Agent-Linux-5.60.2178.tar.gz to uncompress then sh install.sh to install.
Ok, now on with the show - fire up Disk Sync Agent Console on the laptop (win xp). I followed DiskSyncHOWTO.doc for this part.
Set up agent ok
When setting up the job, I got a little confused and needed help from support
Reply: The address you want to use for the vault is 209.85.111.12, or you can use its hostname 'disksync01.hstntx2.theplanet.com'. Either will work. You only need the (my ip) address when you are connecting your desktop agent console to the agent on your server.
Wammo - great - shes away
I set up a backup of just my /home directory
I have about 120 accounts on my server. About 40 are running mysql db's. Most sites are not big, a couple around 300 meg but most under 20 meg.
I used 4 gig to do my first back up - It did not take long. CPU rate went up on my server as expected.
I deleted some files from my own account, and used restore to put them back there
Real easy, quick, and well worth the investment.
Note I continue to do daily, weekly and monthly full backups to my second HD using cpanel.
But I think if I ever need to recover a file/directory for a client, it will make it so much more easy
cheers
