Full Version: Remote install?
The Planet Forums > Operating Systems > BSD

Ok, The Planet doesn't give us the option to install FreeBSD on any of their newer 64-bit processors. I'm not hell-bent on getting FreeBSD on them, but it'd be nice. I'm not exactly a fan of RHEL.

However, I haven't been able to get a good answer from anyone as to if its still possible to do a remote install using the serial console. In fact, I can't even find out if serial console is still offered -- it's not mentioned on the TP website.

Has anyone used the Depenguinator (or any other tools) to move from RHEL up to, say, FreeBSD 6.1 over a remote connection?

Yes - It's possible to install / upgrade FreeBSD over a remote serial console (at least in our Houston datacenters)

Not sure about the Dallas DC's

This could be due to driver issues and hardware compatibility. I haven't yet tested 6.2 on some of the new x86_64 architecture.
