The servers are quite different now...
It seems I've come back to desolate i365 servers that are lacking all of the old school regulars that made them such fun maps to play.
The Sharqi server waivers at 50/64 players, rather than the 20 minute wait to get into a full 64/64 map. Lag is significantly increased...although it seems all of BF2 servers are lagging now, not just i365. Teamkilling still runs ramped on the heli pads, but the swear filter seems to cut down on some of the flames. Team switching on the server now, seems somewhat silly as players just re-switch at the beginning of the next map. More of an annoyance, since the teams just re-stack anyways, and players have to make their squads all over again. It seems over half of the regular players from a year ago have either been banned by admins or have left the game. Indeed these are sad times for the devote BF2 fans. But perhaps there is hope.
I left when BFROE seemed to be starting up. I admired their vigor for wanting to change the face of insomnia servers. It seemed like it might actually work at first...admins were plentiful, teamkilling dropped down (a little) and players were banned for abusing game play rules. From speaking to several players it seems that a few admins gave BFROE a bad name by banning regular players for petty infringences and changing the server rules. Perhaps their story was one-sided, as I am sure BFROE has its reasons. But, it was still very sad to watch the downward spiral of what was at one time the best BF2 server around. The combination of BF2 growing in age, the lack of mature & competitive BF2 players, and the frustrating inability for 95% of players to ever improve at this game compounded the problems that were already chipping away at i365 and seemed to denote the beginning of the end for what we once considered the most fun server around.
My hope is that BFROE will continue to work to improve the problems that were bringing the i365 servers to their knees while leaving their focus off of issues that were of little importance. I hope that good players will continue to play here and that some of the veterans that grew up here might have a second chance to return. I don't know if we will ever see a server that does not have 5 team kills at the start of the game, or that does not have someone dropping non-stop artillery on the enemy with a downloaded app. At least now we have admins that seem to care. And I am very thankful that you guys did not get frustrated and quit. Please keep up your valiant efforts. I just hope that your motives stay sincere. Perhaps these last 2 months are just a transition time for better games to come. I will do my part in helping to clean up i365 servers and hopefully bring about a return to the golden age where these servers rightfully belong. I hope that you will consider removing the team switch and also consider removing the ban from several of my friends that would like to return. At the very least, I hope that you might put personal differences aside, and consider a discussion with the players as to what is in the best interest for the i365 servers...as ultimately we all want the same thing.
WAREHOUSE
(on a side note, since i have been away so long- what is the best way to get in contact with an admin when a player is using a no-fog hack or disrupting game play? I don't like the idea of being a snitch...but some players definitely need to be reported, and not all BFROE admins seem to have the same rcon access.)
