Greetings,

The long-awaited upgrade to the Linux version of the DiskSync Agent has arrived!

The installer is available at:

http://downloads.theplanet.com/disksync/Ag....60.2178.tar.gz

Simply extract the contents of this package and execute the "install.sh" script to install or upgrade an existing installation.

NOTE: The minimum required Agent Console to control this version of the Agent is Agent Console v5.62. PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF AGENT CONSOLE WILL GENERATE ERRORS WHEN TRYING TO CONTROL THE LATEST VERSION OF THE AGENT FOR LINUX.

Thank you!

thanks... quick question i have about 16megs free on my /usr/ partition should I install the disksync stuff on a larger partition? I forgot how big the file get under /usr/local/BUAgent

EDIT: i found the answer, 51 megsl. but if i remember it needs more than that. i installed on my second HD so i won't have any space issues later on.

Justin:

Could you post a changelog in this thread so we'll know what has changed/been fixed in this version?

Thanks.

devGOD,

You are correct, 16MB would not be sufficient. DiskSync tracks your backup catalogs and DeltaBlock Analysis files in the /usr/local/BUAgent tree, and depending on the number of files you're backing up and/or how much those files change, the usage would be substantial.

I manage one server that has a 90 day / 90 copy retention on a sizable set of SQL databases, and the DiskSync directory tree consumes more than half a GB.

William,

I don't have a changelog, per se- but I can run down a few of the new features.

Tasks are now called "Jobs"

Ability to disable pre-scanning - Backups process much quicker, but you may lose hard link references. (I.E. the files will be restored as actual files, not hard links to the original file)

Wildcard Directory/Filename Searches

Filesystem ACL support

Cross-catalog searches - You can now search through all available catalogs when restoring files without having to switch between Restore Wizard screens.

Bandwidth Throttling - You can restrict the bandwidth that DiskSync is permitted to use - NOTE: If you set this too low, you may exceed the "Deferring Window" for the task, at which point the backup will end, even though it did not collect all files. If this becomes an issue, either disable deferring, or make the deferring window larger. This can be done in the Schedule for scheduled operations, or in the Job preferences for manual backups.

Advanced Filtering permits improved backup performance and usability.

Longer Job name support - Increases from 8 characters to 30 (This is not yet supported on our Vault, but will be soon.)

Those are the high points, there were a few minimal changes that make minor tweaks to the way things happen, but for the most part it's the same.

jscott,
Would you or another user be kind enough to help me with the full commands I need to use in order to install the DiskSync on my Linux server?

I have the the file downloaded to my desktop:: Agent-Linux-5.60.2178.tar.gz but am unsure as what do next.
Do I upload to my server in the compressed form it is in now? To what directory?

I know I can put in a trouble ticket but I would prefer to do this myself.....but need help.

Thanks.

Marshall
