I am looking into getting a dedicated server and I obviously came across RackShack. I would just like to get some feedback on everyones experiences and happiness with RackShack. I have always heard a lot of good things about ev1, but I wanted to get some testimonials about RackShack.

thanks

Mark

Very, very Happy.icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_razz.gif
Here you can find the best dedicated servers price/value. If you have some experience managing linux servers you will have no problems at all (unless you have a harware issue:))

Merged from the other post so I edited to delete it.

Absolutely. More than happy.

Yes we've occassionally had a few network problems but reboots have been fast but we don't really need anything more from tech support as we handle it ourselves.

RackShack Rocks !!!

I've been very happy. I did have hardware (motherboard / cpu / ram) problems within the first few days, but upon notifying them, it was replaced within 30 minutes (and this was early hours of the morning).

Since then, It's been basically 100% uptime. Probably most all of us could go on about how much we do like it...

One thing to note though, is to make sure you understand what Rackshack is. They provide you with a pre-loaded (linux, ensim, plesk, etc) box and a connection to the 'net. That's it.

It's up to you to do your own backups, software upgrades, keep hackers out, etc. While I'm sure they provide some level of support when it comes to standard software config, additional help is not guaranteed. In the end, if something really gets messed up, you'll have to resort to a complete server re-install.

In short ... what you get is great, but you cannot take a hands-off approach. YOU are the sysadmin.

I am also interested in purchasing a RackShack server. I am been doing some research on the company...and reading just about every forum on here. I understand the price is unbeatable...but what will I be getting myself into? I understand the Customer Service could be better...but again for the price they offer, you really can't beat it. So basically once you purchase a server, you are on your own? Except for reboots or anything to do with the server personally? I would appreciate any feeback as well. I respect you guys, and the advice you can offer.

Thank you,

Yes, you are on your own. Rackshack techs will assist you if you have hardware probs, need a reboot and other basic questions.
I have only needed support due to some HD failures and bad ram. Then no need to use support at all (of course you need basic linux server administration knowledge).

As you could tell that was my first post...hence the duplication! I thank you for your responce jaume...if anyone else would like to put their 2 cents in...I would not object. Your opinions are what will make my final decision. I have a few business partners that understand the linux system...so they will be my back up. I will be the front runner. So please, let your mind wonders. I would like to hear the GOOD, and the BAD!

Thanks,

I would not make the server operational right away. If you must start up a site immediately, take an account at a reliable host, such as venturesonline (or other) and take a couple of months to setup your server (mostly security issues). This will also give you time to learn the control panel. If I were to take another server and it was to host just one site I would consider the Red Hat standalone. For hosting multiple sites I prefer Ensim. Others like Plesk.
RoadRash
I have never used Plesk or Ensim before, but I have used RAQs. The Raqa are simple to administer.
