When I attempt to connect to my win2k3 server I get the "loading settings" etc.... and then the next message I get is "saving settings" and I am logged off/disconnected. This whole process takes about 5 seconds (it's an immediate logoff). Has anybody ever found a solution to this problem?

Are you using the default Remote Desktop Connection from XP or the new version which was recently available in Windows Update ?
If you are using the old one, do upgrade to the latest and give it a try.
It seems like it is possible that your server is denying your access or it is a small glitch. Does it happen all the time ?

Using the new client. Happens all the time. Last time this happened I had to do an OS reload or pay for diagnosis (no easy fix). I have found tons of references to this on the 'net but no real solutions.

Have you tried connecting to the system console? Run 'mstsc -console' to connect to it.

You can try getting into the Computer Management Console of that machine if you want to see what the Event Log is tracking.
Start > Run "mmc"
File > Add/Remove Snap-in..
Click "Add..." button
Select "Computer Management", click Add
Choose "Another Computer:" and input your server's IP
Click Finish, Close and then OK.
After that you should be asked for the Administrator account and password then you can get into the Computer Manager of that machine.
Check the Event Log under Application or System and see if any red exclimation points are highlighted next to anything. If possible, have that remote-management console ready, then try logging in via Remote Desktop and note the time.
Hope that helps

I think last time we had this issue it was related to completely full C: drive. Remembering off the top of my head. Try search feature, it's probably much better on iPB then phpBB.

I had the exact same problem and it turned out to be a rootkit installed on the server.
