Got a question about binding an IP to my IPMI port on my server.

I know the IP that I'm suppose to bind to it, but when I do ifconfig, I only see my loopback port and my eth0 adapter...

Where exactly do I add this ip to, or what command do I have to use to bind it to the IPMI port?

Thanks

Good question - I've been wondering that myself.

I had windows on the server but I didn't want it...I saw my second NIC there for the IPMI, but not quite sure how I can add my ip for it on linux. lol

The IPMI ip address has to be set up at boot time on the server (usually, at some point, you will be asked to press CTRL-E)
I don't know if that can be set without having to reboot the server, though.
You have to select if you want to share it on on your ethernet port or to use a dedicated port.

(works on most Dell servers, with or without DRAC)

You may also view the IPMI configuration remotely with the command "ipmitool lan print 1" from the package OpenIPMI-tools, in addition to configuring from the BIOS (Ctrl E) prompt
