Hello guys, can anyone help me or give me a heads up on this problem?
I successfully upgraded Plesk to 2.5.3. I then followed the instructions I found here and on plesk forums to upgrade php to 4.2.1. The upgrade finished without any errors. I then restarted the plesk. MysQL restarted, named restarted, apache restarted. But when I go to my web browser, none of my sites are visible on the internet anymore.
I had made a backup of the libphp4.so before the upgrade. So I restored that backup and everything started working again, But of course the php is showing php 4.1.0. If I attempt to copy the libphp4.so in the php4.2.1 installation back to the /libexec/ the server is no longer visible on the internet.
Does anyone have a clue what I am missing? Or if there's any additional step I should have followed to make this work?
I hope I explained the problem well.
Thanks in advance for you input.

I had some big problems with php 4.2.1 and to be honest I wouldn't use it at all... it broke vbulletin on my box... even though it was a version supposed to work on 4.2.1

The thing is I'd be happy to use the current php 4.1 as installed with Plesk 2.5.3, but unfortunately, I have a billing program that is requiring that php be installed with mhash. If I can recompile php with mhash, I'll be a happy camper.

I have upgraded to 4.1.2 with plesk v2.5.3 and it works fine. I'm not sure what mhash is

but i'm sure you can try and compile it in.

It only breaks admin/user.php - if you take the user.php from 2.2.6 and rename it to say user2.php then you can just put that in the URL when you need to edit a user's group/search for their posts through the control panel (or just edit the templates to go to user2.php) - this is what I do since it's much easier than putting in my dozens of custom hacks for a minor upgrade.

Nope the only thing that broke on my vbulletin was the search routine.
