anyone know why all of a sudden my normal FTP program takes like a minute to login to the server (w2k3/IIS6/Plesk7.5)?
used to take like 4 seconds and now it's a minute?

Which FTP Server are you using ? Is there a DNS check for logins set for the FTP Server ?

This could be due to reverse ip lookups. Are you resolvers working? I have also seen an issue if your local hostname is not in /etc/hosts properly or was not changed properly via plesk.

Yeah, that's the term I was trying to use but forgot about it 'Reverse IP lookup'.

I'm using WS-FTP PRO app, version 2006 (ie brand new and yup I own it) on my XPSP2 box to try to login to my w2k3/IIS6 server.
What does this mean?
"Is there a DNS check for logins set for the FTP Server?" -- and this -- "reverseIP lookup"
How are these items 'found' and managed, and why would they at least make the logins ALL the same. ie why is it quick one day then SLOW the next...
???

Look the in Plesk Knowledgebase (google it) under FTP for instructions on how to remove the Rev DNS lookups.

================================================
"How do I disable the reverse lookup for ftp?
Product versions this article applies to:
Plesk for UNIX (questions are not related to version)
The latest update: Aug,16 2005
Access: public Article ID #176
Add and disable UseReverseDNS directive to the /usr/local/psa/ftpd/etc/proftpd.conf file. In RPM Plesk version this file is located in the /etc/ directory.
example:
UseReverseDNS offThe change will take effect the next time someone logs into ftp."

BUT...as I stated first, my Plesk is on a w2k3/IIS6 box...not UNIX as is stated above...
???
Anyone else know?

Just a guess, if you are using Pro-FTP, whether if it is Linux or Windows, it should have the same settings. Have you checked the .conf file as suggested.

Just wondering, is it not slow after you login?
